Default Introducing.... Me!

Hello Bernie and everyone.

I've been a lurker to this wonderful site for a little while now and have now decided to join up. I luv it.

I was one party freak back in the late 70's and early 80's - I used to prefer the "after hour joints" such as Green Street, The Loft, Buttermilk Bottom and The Garage, (all in New York) just to name a few. Mind you, I would leave them once they got popular with the "up-town crowd" :D I was such a party freak snob  Albeit I am female, I preferred going to the male gay joints, they "know how to party" and I could too, without any male hassle to boot.

I live in London now - but frequently visit NY, which I miss more and more. I must admit, once I moved here, I gave the clubs here a miss as it was just not the same, although I think it has probably got a lot better since.

I still love my music and gosh, thanks for the amazing recaps down memory lane I find on here - you know, I wouldn't be surprised if I haven't partied with and know some of you on this forum :D

Thanks for reading this.

Vienne

Hi Vienne,

Welcome to the board. Love it when the 'lurkers' finally give in. Sounds like you were stomping around with some people I probably met while working the Gallery. Did you ever make it there before it closed? Levan was doing Buttermilk Bottom while the Gallery was still around so maybe we crossed paths.

Nice to have you and looking forward to hearing some of your memories. :)

OMG - The Gallery - Gawd yeah... When you say you were working the Gallery, does that mean you were the DJ there for a while? Either way, RESPECT lol.

There are clubs that I frequented that I can't even recall the names of - death traps, but oooooh, the music was goood, the energy out of this world. Some clubs would run for a year or two and disappear - one or two, I'm sure (I may be politically incorrect in saying this) were "insure and burn" victims as they always seemed to have a fire when no one was in the club

Do you or anyone else remember the name of a club that used to be on Bleeker Street in the late 70's?

By the late 70's The Village was only just becoming a fashionable place to be. Prior to that it was looked upon as being the home of drop outs, struggling artists, underground jazz, freaks and a whole bunch of run-down and abandoned buildings and warehouses. Mind you, in the mid-70's thats where I used to sneak off without telling my parents to buy a pair of shoes that NOBODY else would have - you could always get a one-of-a-kind sumthin, sumthin in the Village in those days - and cheaply too 8)

Yeah, NickNack, seems like we more than likely crossed paths eh? I was terribly hedonistic - I LIVED to party so you gotta exchange some of your experiences for the fun of it :D

Thanks for replying, I enjoyed it.

Vienne,

Hello and welcome to the site. Looks like you've already made contact with our moderator Nicky. You may want to read an interview conducted with him on this site to jog your memory. Look forward to your posts and contributions.

Bernie,

Thank you. I took time out to read both your interview with NickNack and David Mancuso - bloomin excellent reading. As I partied at the places of both these two icons :D I feel it a must that I put in my penny's worth. I shall do so when I have a little more time.

One comment before I close, I have to say that definitely, The Loft was my most favorite - less chance of my being turned away because I was a female for one and secondly, and most importantly - it WAS all about the musical energy. I see that David is doing a Loft gig here in London in September - I visited his site from the link you gave. The location hasn't been set it seems, but I shall watch that space and take my son along - he's not stopped hearing about my Loft days since the day he was born LOL.

As my son would say "Big-up NickNack" lol.

Take care.

Vienne x
