Default NEW! - AJ Cervantes Interview Available (URL)

Another DiscoMusic.com Exclusive...

As promised earlier... An interview with AJ Cervantes who was the founder of Butterfly Records and Destiny Records is now up on the site at...

A. J. Cervantes / Butterfly Records

There is some great insight into the history of these record labels and the artists who appeared on them such as THP Orchestra, Saint Tropez, Destination... I've also included a discography of each labels product.

Your feedback as always is welcome!

Bernie

That's great Bernie. if it wasn't for discomusic.com, where else could we find an Cervantes interview? Surely not in Mojo, Billboard or Rolling Stone. This site contains precious gems.

Thanks Graham. I knew with THP and all, that it would be your cup of tea.

Bernie: Another disco 'bread head'? Remind me not to look too hard for butterfly records. Does anyone still believe that the people who 'made it' were in it for anything other than money? It takes a cynic to know one I guess.

Yes thanx Bernie, I found this interesting as i dont know too much about Butterfly records but am very interested to know more as their acts were very much my type of thing & existed during my favourite era i.e. late 70's.
Can I just ask a question about THP, as I have a single of theirs from '76 called 'Fightin on The Side of love' on Canadian RCA records. Was this featured on that 1st LP of their's on Butterfly (I only have their LPs from '78 & '79, the latter being on Atlantic records) or were THP going for a while before Butterfly records picked them up? This track is brilliant IMO having a slightly Northern Soul flavo(u)r & features a great lead male vocal by Wayne St John rather than the usual girly vocals (which I also like BTW!)

Steely,

'Fightin On the Side of Love' was not on any of THP's Butterfly releases. Seeing as Graham is a big Guenther / Morrison fan and is from Canada perhaps he can shed more light on this.

"Fighting On The Side Of Love" does not appear on the "Early Riser" LP (the one before "Two Hot For Love", and featuring some of the same tracks).I think this track might be on Wayne St John's album from the time, but I'm not sure -- still looking for a copy!

It's certainly got a different sound (but still good) to the later stuff; less orchestral than the Butterfly LPs; maybe thats why it just says THP instaed of THP Orchestra. Their LP from '79 featuring 'Dancin Is Alright' is just 'THP' though isn't it?

Actually, "Tender Is The Night" is also credited to THP... specifically, THP#2, despite the fact that it was their third album. :)

Aaaahhhh, Butterfly.......the best disco music released on the world's worst vinyl.

I'm scared to open my old Butterfly promos because they've probably melted by now.
