Default Weird E-Mail

Is anyone else getting strange e-mail from members that actually isn't sent by said members? I keep getting notices that Discodisk has sent me e-mail that contains the Klez virus (which he hasn't sent) and then last week one supposedly from Graham that he says he didn't send either.
Then there were 2 from some guy with a DiscoDJ type handle....I e-mailed him and told him there was no text in his message...and he says he never sent me one. I got another from him several days later. I just deleted.

Are "our Trolls" playing pranks or what????

Just curious. I have virus-detecters...so I'm not concerned, just wondering if it's only ME????

I haven't gotten any. Then again, I took my email address out of view a few months ago. Maybe you should, too.

Sounds as though someone's computer has a virus. Many viruses use an infected cmputer's address book to randomly send e-mails out without the owners knowledge. This has nothing to do with the forum or site.

Also worth mentioning is that these virii disguise themselves to look like they came from a different computer. If you have full headers turned on in your Hotmail settings, you can see where these really came from.

You can rule Bernie out, since he uses a Mac. With the exception of MS Office macro worms/trojans (which these are not), there really aren't any virii to speak of that can operate on the Apple OSs.

It's funny you talk about this, guys, because something strange has happened around here. You may know Argentina declared its own default (sort of bankruptcy) around a year ago. Well, until then I received about maybe 2 or 3 virus alert messages by week at least (you know, those chain messages describing the effects, how it works, etc.) Now, in the last year I didn't receive ANY. Not one. Same for most of my friends.
Can we suspect many of those messages are created by the very companies that make the antidotes, like Norton, Virex, etc.?
Just my 2 cents.

I've had 2 from GrahamStart in the past 10 days, plus a DJ one this morning. I just delete 'em.
Norton are forever sending me emails offering anti virus software.
Nano: You really are full of conspiracy theories, but living where you do, I'd probably be the same. I have to agree with you, that this would be a great wheeze and wouldn't put it past them.

im getting these all the time it started for me when i was on holiday at chrismas i follow what bernies saying about address books thats what i originally thought but i also recieved one from graham start and since i cant recall ever speaking to graham outside of discomusic.com his address isnt in my address book so im sure mine isnt in his,in fact in the last hour ive recieved a failed mail notice [no mention of a virus] that i was supposed to have sent graham subject cellpadding !!! it has an attatchment that ive deleted [it wasnt me graham honest!] i think i even went as far as checking if grahams e.mail is stored at disco and im sure it wasnt so thats strange.
i have also recieved these from a couple of people that are e.bay 12" sellers and i had about 3 that were supposed to be from marky at the weekend so for me its like a disco related thing, DISCOS REVENGE????????

A very strange thing about these messages is that they have subject headings. Graham's said something about "Hoping to see me soon". So I thought , maybe he's coming to LA???? Then, I find it was just a virus creating bogus e-mail. Is it HAL 9000 screwin' wit us?????

What some of the more clever ones do is lift a subject name from a previously sent message, or include a document or file from the infected computer's hard drive. This makes it look even more like a legit e-mail, increasing the chances that it will be opened and infect another machine.

For the record, I send very little e-mail from my Hotmail account, and if I do, I usually ask them to reply to my proper e-mail address. My proper e-mail address also has my real name on it which is not Graham Start. Also, I never send attachments of any sort without asking first.

And Marky, I would love to visit you in LA... especially right now, as it's -15°C outside here! But time and money are always in such short supply....
