What the %#@

Now--- from this am I to take it … that all this has suddenly turned into being something about ME ??

Look Mixmachine, I was actually on the verge of joining in on your protest of Pete's banning as did Paul and others based on the way you presented the situation. I had only it to base that decision.

It was with great relief that Bernie’s explanation appeared and painted a broader picture of the issue and made the banning seem justified. You are focused on an apparent certain incident( of which I had nothing to do with by the way) …. Bernie is looking at something larger .

It was this banning though and that of Quinny that compelled me to write this thread … that and Barry Lederer’s death. It all just seemed to mesh into one and I just needed to air some building thoughts as it seems like the era is slipping away from us.... and I hate to see us losing knowledgeable people when we need to be gaining them.

I didn’t intend to make this a post against you , I regret you seem to think so . You and I have bumped heads along the way but I always felt like we gained more than we lost in those exchanges . Two different life experiences --- both involving disco. We clashed , we agreed… and so it goes.

But now I have to conclude that the Denis email gay tirade was him basically channeling opinions of you … he just seems too opinionated about some of that for a newcomer…. Unless he’d had some kind of a discomusic.com history lessen from someone.

I now conclude that the problems in this particular case stem not from “gay” issues … but from “anti-gay” ones ..

Regardless---

bringing this here and attaching it to this thread now renders the intent of it totally worthless .

No one in their right mind reviewing this is going to want any part of this zoo.

SO Bernie, VS, & Russ ,

I respectfully request that the entirety of this now futile thread be removed .
PLEASE.

thank you
remicks

remicks,

I think you've misread the situation. He's not after you.
Just think he chose the departing words of a certain someone associated with you. That's my read.

Rather than stir up more shit--I'll p.m. you

Remicks, I can understand that you are angry now. You opened this thread with very good intentions and as a tribute to Barry Lederer, who we all know and love and we are all saddened by his sudden departure.

I see that the thread has moved the wrong way. But...just think about us now (Bernie, Russ and me). If we edit or remove we'll be the "fascists" of the week, we'll be Big Brother and ruthless censors. You are a good and an intelligent man and I do know that you understand our position right now.

I'm also very saddened with Mixmachine's decision and I do hope he will reconsider. I know you both were not good "friends" but the discussions between you and Mix were always respectful.

The content that is published in the link that Bernie has mentioned to us has made me very furious but I'm not going further into that right now. And, BTW, what is Fantomas suddenly doing there?

So, Remmy, take a deep breath, relax, I know you want to express your feelings and we all have to do that sometimes!

Give us 3 some time to discuss this all, think about it and don't forget that we are in different time-zones.

Thx,
Johan

I'm sorry VS but seeing these very intentionally hurtful and demoralizing words ..... that should have been removed from here a long time ago! ..... resurface like this and on this particular thread ....well it just goes beyond the pale.
I'm not sure what to think anymore.

Mix,
I'm sorry you feel that way and have chosen to leave as I have always appreciated your participation on the site as have others. Your participation here has always been welcome, but if you feel as if you have to leave then I'll have to respect that decision. I'll certainly miss you and lament your loss. Please accept my best wishes.

Remicks,
I agree with Marky in that Mix's quote of Simon's text had nothing to do with you personally. It was a convenient quote that perhaps Mix had no idea was originally tied to you, but felt, especially that the last sentence, was apropos for his departure. Please do not take it personally.

Remicks I do apologize that your wonderful thread has deteriorated to this level, but you must keep in mind that you did tie Pete and Quinny's banning to it so you should have known that it would continue down that road. You could have easily started another post just for the banning topic.

I can't delete all this now because it has become a pivotal event that we can all learn from now. I had thought long and hard about posting Pete's comment and link, but since HE was the FIRST to publicize his tirade all over the web I felt it was best that everyone hear it from me instead of stumbling across it on the web and then later accuse me of hiding something as big as that.

I think your initial post has actually achieved some good in that things are out in the open and we all know where we stand. Let's make this a positive experience as much as we can. This forum is about everyone and everyone is welcome so long as they participate with respect and understanding. Let's try to move forward and use Remicks post sans the banning issue as our goal... for everyone to participate.

Thank you.

Remicks,
Just thought of something:
What I could do is split this thread so that all the heavy stuff is no longer attached to your original post and create a new thread for the banning issue. I hope that seems fair to everyone as I do believe Remicks original post holds so much promise and it is obvious that Remicks put a lot out on the table and I really do feel bad that things went the way they did. I'll do this tomorrow so that others won't loose their place following the discussions.

thanks very much Bernie .

As far as complicating it with divided topics in the original post ... yes I see that now ....

---- In my moment of self absorption .... I overlooked the bigger news here and that is Mixmachine's decision to not participate here. Please don't do that Mix ....you've been here a long time and have added so much. Besides your knowledge, you provide a much needed balance in several ways. I think its admirable that you would take such a significant stance but I don't think the solution is to put yourself on the chopping block too. I think what you are protesting does have merit but ....you know ... take a deep breath and hopefully work thru it. Why don't you just take a break and come back when it seems right ... there are still topics for us to sort thru (!) .....and this is family here of which you are in long standing ....

YOUR DISCO FRIEND

Blimey, that Pete guy really seems to have issues!
Keep on trucking Bernie & don't let the b----ds grind you down. I really empathise with the terrible time you've been through with your partner; a good friend of mine died suddenly earlier this year & I'm about to lose my job so I'm not having the best of years myself - thank goodness we've got wonderful music & your fab site to help us through the bad times.

SD,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. She's a tough lady and I know she'll get through this. Besides, her granddaughter will make sure of that :-)

Please accept my condolences on the sudden passing of your friend and now the upcoming issues with work. A better job will come along and you'll make the transition just fine. You may have to cut back on the music buying, but it will all work out in the end. I think we are all put to tests and we have to hold our heads high and push on. Makes it all worth living. Good luck!

Although I'm a newbie to this site I've been involved in the industry since 1980. I admit I'm a Pete Denis fan, after all he was my mentor. This whole thing was handled poorly. There's no doubt that no one knows the real truth behind this fiasco that happened about 28 years or so ago. There's a grudge that could not be shaken by Mr. Freeman. The benefit of doubt will always go to the verteran of the forum, that's 99.999% of the time. It was easier to ban Pete than deal with the real cause of the issue. With respect to all, I too am out of here.
Bernie I wish you and your family well.

It's a shame that, after 3 months, your first post on the site, would be your last. And it's also unfortunate that you and your mentor never connected on here. Even though you joined within less than a week of eachother. "Ships passing in the night...", I guess.

But let me assure you that I've never met Pete Denis. Never. Any perceived altercation in the past, was purely of his imagination. A rather vivid-imagination, considering the cast of characters he's created here.

As you can see, his personal issues within the site started much sooner, and ran infinitely deeper, than any he may have had with me.
