Just noticed this new "Rep Power" stat by our names...when did this come about?? Is it based on the number of posts??? Huh?

I saw one member with "0" power--though that person has posted here for years!!! Is this a "Controversy?" I'm just askin'!!!!

It's a political thing. You have "18" which means that you are rated very high by Karl Rove! Keep up the good work Marky!

That rep power is a sort of voting system. You can rate a thread and you can also click on the little scale in the right corner of every post, nothing to worry about Marky. As for your underlined posts, it's a marketing tool, called content links. A search robot highlights some words and provides links to advertisements. It's in no way the Trojan Bernie is talking about in his alert! The Trojan links will appear right BEFORE OR AFTER YOUR POST!

The rep power has been up before, but I had disabled it since no one bothered rating threads. I accidentally turned it on last week and figured we'll give it another go.

The rep power is a points system based on a combination of factors such as the amount of time a poster has been a member, number of posts a member has contributed and finally as well as most important... the votes for or against them given by fellow members who click on the scales icon at the top of EACH post. I encourage all of you to click those scales and vote. The more rep power you have, the more effect you can have.

This helps newbies get a better idea of who the trusted members are and who are full of hot air or thread crappers. Anyone can post a lot, but do others find it useful??? Vote and let yourself be heard.

Not sure if I'll keep it up, but we'll see how many of you participate. Don't let me down people.

What a crap idea the Rep Power is!!!! Yet another example of internet fascism, thought up by stupid (American?) computer geeks.

I just gave you a positive vote, for the laughs your post provided me, and possibly to balance against the negs your post will probably attract. Is it possible to have a "-n" rep power?

Bernie has answered my enquiries through private emails, but I'm still not mastering this system. I have a rep power of 1, but when I click on the "scales of justice" icon on one of my posts, find that I've jumped from 10 reputation points to 20.

That kinda of thing And Quinny can be a real pain in da butt sometimes but he deserves more than a zero IMO.

Having fun on the board, learning stuff, getting information, meeting nice people that's what it's all about here

So; I will not be voting and nobody has to vote for me! Even if I have a rep power of minus 1000, I'll still enjoy myself here and I'll still be proud to be a member of this Supah site!

I've been a member only for one month and since the very beginning I was wondering what that "rep power" was. Today I've found the answer and I consider it politically incorrect and decided to react against it. How? I gave Quinny one positive vote. (It's just politics.)

From now on my rep power could turn red, but I think pain-in-the-asses posts need a more diplomatic handling.

On the other hand, I've felt moderators are very gentle and I've loved their tone and I have tried to resemble them in my usually straight non-diplomatic way of speaking. So I celebrate this but not that.

Hey TeddyBear, that's the way of the world, you're certainly entitled to your own opinion. I'm not angry at you though. There's a time and place for everything in this great big Earth and somehow we (on the internet) find a way to let our frustrations out one way or another y'know? However, Discomusic.com should stay friendly and, of course, opinionated, when it comes to classic dance music.

And it's like I said before, the rep power means less than zero to me anyway, 9 1/2 out of 10 it's still the greatest place to be for a lot of reasons IMHO. Bernie's from my hometown, and I give him 200% respect. Not many people who's actually from Jersey City can moderate such a terrific website such as this one, especially since it's right up my alley! It was his idea right? Personally I'll just let it ride.

As for everyone else here, even Quinny, I learn from all their opinions because they keep me up to speed. Nobody is pushing to be the president of this site I don't think. I'm only 40 years old, but I like like classic dance more than anything else and I consider this to be the BIBLE of the genre. So what?
