Default Anybody else still having trouble logging in...?

Up until this weekend I was able to log in from my home computer occasionally, but here's what's started happening within the past day or two:

I'll log in, and the info at the top of the column will tell me that I'm logged in, I'll write a reply to a topic, then when I hit "submit," I get the "please log in" message again. Over and over and over until I just give up.

I did take Bernie's suggestion about deleting cookies, I emptied my browser cache... you name it. Nothing works.

I'm able to log on from my computer at the office with no problem. Could the difference have anything to do with the fact that I have a DSL connection at work? I use non-DSL AOL at home; maybe the probelm is caused by AOHell?

Comments, suggestions, help, Bernie? Anyone?

I'm having no problems at all... logged in from both work and home... never even had to eat those cookies...

*shrugs*

Jeff,

You mentioned clearing the browser cache, but that's not the same as "deleting cookies."

Go into your browser's preference pane and look around for anything saying"cookies" and then look for a button that says something to the effect of "clear or delete cookies." It may be in a sub menu which means you may have to dig deeper.

In almost every case deleting cookies will clear up any problems that you may have with the forums. Give it a shot and let us know how it went.

Bernie--

I know that clearing the cache and deleting cookies are two different things, and I'm pretty sure I did both. Well, I'm positive I cleared the cache and am reasonably certain I deleted all my cookies too--in fact I'm sure I must have since I had to re-enter all my ID info for my bank, PayPal, etc.

But I'll take another look and "dig deeper." Thanks.

Jeff,

That's exactly what happens to me from home. (Although, sometimes if I keep trying I can get it to accept an occasional post--but it's a whole lotta work). I too have AOL at home DSL at work. At work, it's not a problem.

Ah well, maybe it's for the better. I actually did a lot of chores around the house.

Well, Bernie, sorry to report that deleting cookies a second time still hasn't corrected the problem.

I did, in fact, delete ALL my cookies on Sunday, and last night deleted only the cookies from this site. Still no luck. :(

(Btw: You wouldn't believe just how many cookies are associated with just ONE of those damn pop-up ads from Colonize, etc. Individual COLORS have their own cookie, for chrissakes! )

Is anyone but me and Marky having this problem? Or do I smell some kind of conspiracy...?! Huh? Huh?! 8)

Hey, I'm just askin'!

Actually, there may be. Since it's not cookies and both of you have AOHell, perhaps they are doing content filtering of some sort??? Whatever it is seems to have affected both of you at around the same time.

I can't find anything on my end. Everythings working just fine. I know that Microsloth Internet Explorer, which AOL uses, has a preference pane for security and ratings. Perhaps checking into that???

AOL has always given webmasters a major headache because of their stupidity. I got rid of them back in '96 when I first got on the web. Other than this guys I think you should ditch AOL -- get Earthlink! I have cable now, but still keep Earthlink (as a backup when cable goes out) which has NEVER given me a problem. Either way I'll keep checking on my end for any problems.

This is a test. This is only a test...

I just made some adjustments to my Internet security settings as you suggested, Bernie, and so far, so good: I logged in and got into the forums with having to log in a second (and third and fourth...) time.

So if this message manages to get posted, maybe I've solved my problem...

(I'll try to explain what I did for you sometime, Marky--unless you want to continue to have all that free time on the weekends! )
