| It's hard to believe that this site has been up since 1996! In fact I had only bought my first computer just before putting the site together. It's all so strange how the site has taken a life of its own and it is because of all of you that have made it what it is. Thank you everyone! Here's to another decade of Disco on the web. |

2.So, you don't have to wish for younger days To be very honest. Since I joined this site I'm experiencing a Time warp. I'm bloody serious about it! I'm in a Seventies-mode all the time and I'm freakin' enjoying it  I haven't bought new (released, that is) music in almost 2 years, I only look for classics and when I occasionally watch MTV or TMF, I'm relieved that I'm not missing anything. BTW, yesterday I watched "Staing Alive", a pic that I had never seen, believe it or not. Okay, Tony Manero, dancing, yeah, music sucked big time except a few good Bee Gees-songs and then suddenly after the show premiered and Tony Manero says "Now I feel like struttin", walks out of the theatre, the bass falls down from heaven and the "real" Stayin' Alive boosts out of the speakers, I thought "Yeah, THIS IS IT and THIS WILL FOREVER BE IT!!! So Bernie, guys, let's hope we all see each other in 2016, 2026, .... |

| Discoman, did you see "I Robot", where Will Smith is collecting all 70's stuff to protest against the sterile society he's living in? In fact, we are doing the same thing    It keeps us in shape and lets us remember the warmth of our youth But picking up a vinyl, you bought in 197X, take it out of the sleeve and place it on the turntable, .....SUCH A FEELING! |

| I haven't seen "I, Robot", so much of today's entertainment leaves me so completely flat I no longer seek out what's new and hot, which is so unlike me. Though, I think the same is happening to many others as evidenced by the proliferation (right word?) of old music in movies and commercials of today. I keep trying to like anything new but I just keep going back to my disco collection. which has nothing to do with any nostalgia I may have for the '70s or a return to my youth but it reflects the total lack of quality anything in today's pop culture/mass entertainment. This discussion we're having over some bonehead called "Clay Aiken" is evidence of that. Shit, if it weren't for "American Idol" (which I have never watched) Aiken would be as anonymous as the rest of us. And now his personnal life is exposed for all to comment on. How embarrassing... Mass marketing and Corporations have ruined our world. Sterile is an excellent analogy. Our world of the '70 was certainly everything but sterile! :D I'm happy to have been a young adult and to have experienced the '70s as I did because I just don't see that same joie de vivre (how's my French?) today - the young seem to be so uptight about so much... About CDvs. Vinyl; CD seems flat to me... :-? One of my favorite movies is "Grand Prix" Frankenheimer's 1966 racing epic. And after all of these years and after all of the epic movies I have seen since (and I've seen them all) "Grand Prix" is still the biggest thrill I have ever gotten in the movies. And I stiil have the soundtrack LP that I bought in 1967... :D |

Nothing quite like dropping the needle ...... Vinyl demands respect . You have to properly care for it ... or all too easily ........ :( I think this required gentle handling added to how we valued the music. ....... besides the added sensory of the whole hands-on turntable process . (There was this additional visual component to playing one's muscic) Today the music is disposable ..... listen to it for a day and toss it .... no effort , no preservation ....... download choices for an entire playlist to be available on an ipod at the press of a button. CD skips ? ..... just burn a new one .... Can there be any doubt that the appreciation for the music is diminished when treasuring it is not necessary ?? :( Discoman wrote: Quote:
