Yep, DJ Phil is... uh... kinda extreme.

I don't like MP3s either -- particularly the "music should be free" mentality that they have given some people -- but that's just my opinion.

When will it be my turn to storm out of this site?

A little too late for what?

Phil, I am very surprised at your remarks. You do realize that every time I played one of your DJ mixes I had to pay licensing fees for every song on your cassettes? In fact I pay fees for every song on this site which is a heavy financial burden to me. Do you think I play all this music and not have to pay for it? I've done more to promote legitimate music sales than anyone so don't brow beat me on this one.

This is a discussion forum and people may discuss things you may not like. I'm not going to censor them because you don't like it. Discussions are a two way street. You could have easily dropped the conversation and moved on to other things, but you chose not to. You are just as much to blame as the others-who by the way-e-mailed to apologize for dragging it out.

What's ironic is that I agree with you on the MP3 debate and that the "I have to have it free" mentality is ruining music. However, this is a very important topic to discuss since I believe we are at the verge of something big in muisc. You could have made a passionate and point by point account of your thoughts, but instead you chose to get angry and upset. That's a shame and your problem. As an adult we all have to learn how to deal with others.

Anyway, rest assured that I will delete your user account. I am sorry to see you go, but I certainly won't beg for you to stay. I hope this has met with your "counsel's" approval. Good day.

Ouch.
Whew. Where is Lean when we need her. I think it's time we all get laid. The symptoms are abvious here. If I were a spiritual person, I would say there seems to be some kind of negative energy flow in the air. Not just here, everywhere it seems. So my best advice is to use the old fashion treatment. Loving, consentual and passionate of course.

Marky and Lord, glad y'all liked my little joke....I just found those posts too hilarious to let pass without comment.
Bernie, I have always wondered about the licensing fee situation and how it affects the site. I don't think you should carry the load on your own. Why not set up one of those "PayPal"-type donation thingies so that members can help to defray the costs? I'd be happy to donate.

How funny... Since I never download MP3's I didn't bother reading the thread. I had no idea what was taking place. It must have been a hoot.

I hope, like Bernie says, we can one day DISCUSS it fully, sans emotional venom.

Boodi: love your suggestion (and your humor but you already knew that). I have PayPal and would be happy to donate, even if to cover DJ Phil's mixes...

Let's all live by the Jazz Pilgrim's motto: it has got to be about the music. Name calling is for children.

On another note, I am happy to learn that I may be 'releaved' from my Top 500 compilation duties. But... how will I succeed in cooking the books Enron/Worldcom style to ensure Jacques Fred Petrus is represented in a significant manner???

Bernie, as an adult I also have the choice of walking away from the 'b.s'. I have 'learned' to deal with other, but have they? As in a prior post 'god forbid if one makes a spelling error'. That was very 'adult' of you to point out my typing error. I must remember to send a donation to the 'Hooked On Phonics' web page.

Guys, I just have a suggestion. It's obvious these people can't stand we can still talk about them, because they're just curious about what we are saying about them. They are clearly the case of someone who doesn't know when it's time to go for good.
I've seen several times that they tend to return inmediately after someone has dropped their names. They probably put their nicks in the forum search engine to see who's talked about them and answer our "offenses" properly.
So, my suggestion is to just stop naming them (I promise I will). Anyway, we can refer to them (in case we bother) with surnames like YouKnowWho, YouKnowWhat or WhatTheHell...
I'm pretty sure they will leave us alone in that case.

What a tragedy,

people dissing and insulting each other for MP3 and downloads. Is this the love and peace community I thought this site was?
Luckily this is just an anonymous forum, right? I'd like to see all of us shout at each other face to face in real life.
(Would ya use brutal force to emphasise your opinion Phil? 'cause that's what extremist do; remember Bin Laden?!)

Ah, just give up on the discussion about MP3's and musical rights, because as long as we're not really in politics or in the music industry, then we've got nothing to say about it anyway! We can only suggest what we think and share our thoughts, and that's it. And if somethimes we have different opinions, well then so be it! This is a multicultural democratic forum, so there's no reason for people like DJ Phil to get so pissed off if someone doesn't share their vision! Just learn to take some critics from time to time, otherwise start your own forum with yourself as only member!

This is just a disco-forum, not a war zone!

So relax peoples, It's summertime!
Peace ya'll!

Greetz from sunny Belgium,
I'm off to another festival!
