i have to keep going back and look at the top 500. it is really fascinating. seeing songs i had forgotten about, or knowing others liked the same obscure( i thought they were)songs i did.
questions:
when was the survey done?
how many members voted?
how many members were in the group at the time?
how many songs could you select?
has the amount of registered members increased so much it could be time to vote again?

California Mike,

I'll attempt to answer your questions, as best I can.

1)Survey was done in approximately November, 2000 in response to the VH-1 Top 100 Dance Song Special. Members thought they did a lousy job. We got the idea to make our own list. Bernie & Maarten made some ground rules. Maarten compiled the posted lists into a database and he and Bernie eventually posted the list maybe 3 or so weeks later.

2) As best I remember, (I printed out all or almost all the lists), around 96 or so people submitted lists. Maarten & Bernie probably know exactly.

3) I don't think there was a posted listing of members at that time. Lotsa one-time posters may have contributed. I'm not even sure you had to register at all at the time we voted. It seems that came into being shortly thereafter. Correct me if I'm wrong Bernie.

4) They supposedly counted the Top 25, weighting #1 with 25 points and #25 with 1 point. But most people submitted more. I had 50; Funky Dude around 500!!!!! (That may be a slight exaggeration!!!). Somehow, Maarten compiled a list. Lots of people had the wrong titles; wrong artists; somehow he and Bernie attempted to determine what the voter was aiming for.

5) That's up to Bernie. It was a lotta work to compile, I'm sure. I think many more folks would vote if we did it again, SOOO even more work this time around. BUT, it would be interesting to see how the current group would vote. I'd guess maybe 40% of the folks who voted in 2000 are still around. Just a guess, though.

thanks for all the info!!! it did sound like a lot of work! even more so if you had to figure out what people were votng for with partial song titles. i'll be looking forward to voting if it happens again. i'd enjoy turning in a 25-50 song list of favorites. but would it be easier for you if it was just a list we turn in and we didn't rank our own lists?...you know, each song just gets one point
