fav 5 tunes you're in to and HELP WITH BROTHERS JOHNSON!!

Hello. Just wanted to let you know which 5 songs I am in love with. I bought a cool cd "Rare Old School Grooves" and thats where these selections are from...
1.Luther Vandross "Shes A Super Lady"
everything i love about disco, dramatic vocals, lots of funky bass and cool strings

2.Jacksons "Everybody" sounds like an OFF THE WALL cut

3.Gladys Knight and The Pips "Bourgie Bourgie" actually this is my fav song right now excellent

4.Isaac Hayes "Theme from The Men"
5.Brothers Johnson "The Real Thing" (2nd fav not from that cd )

2nd part of my post - I am really into Brothers Johnson but i only have FUNKADELIA and LIGHT UP THE NIGHT i found out i can order some i was thinking of getting RIGHT ON TIME i was wondering if any one can tell me if this will fulfil my disco dreams. I love the stings and disco nature of THE REAL THING and DANCIN FREE and STOMP but i cant get WINNERS - is pre LIGHT UP THE NIGHT still disco or just funk?

Pre Light Up The Night Bros Johnson definetely had a more gritty and funky vibe. Classics are plenty though, take your pick from "Strawberry Letter 23", "Get The Funk Out Ma Face" and "Ain't We Funkin' Now"
    All Good :)

I HIGHLY recommend the Right On Time album\cd. I have it and you won't be dissappointed. I'd say it probably leans a little more towards the funk side but if you love these guys, that cd is a must have. Every track is at least good.

The Brothers Johnson!! Oh yeah! One of the first groups I saw perform live at the Cap Center back in the day. "Aint We Funkin Now" uh-huh, uh-huh

They are not known as disco. These brothers were purely funk and considered rivals of Parliament-Funkadelic/George Clinton/Bootsy Collins, etc.

I personally favour the 'Blam' LP from '78. I find the Quincy Jones production gives an indication of where he was heading next with MJ's 'Off The Wall'. That guy (Q) is pure class & genius. Blam is a perfect mixture of their previous grittier funk LPs from '76/7 & the polished slickness of the 'Light Up The Night' LP from 1980. Unfortunately Blam isn't available on CD yet. I could listen to their LPs on a continuous loop for days without getting bored! :P

I have Blam on Cd but unfortunately it was taken out of print about five years ago. It was a U.S. A&M/Universal pressing.

My favourite LPs always seem to get deleted on CD; it happened with Teena Marie's 'Lady T' too.

Get yourself a 12" copy of Ahsford & Simpson's - Bourgie Bourgie!!! Much much better -although rare as hen's teeth!
