"Mélodies En Sous Soul - Paris 70's" is a recent 2-vinyl/cd realese with jazzy, percussive tracks and one diamond of a slow grind disco wonder: "Black Night" by J.C. Pierrec, apparently a skilled session man. The tune resembles a more bass-heavy "Love's Theme", very silky smooth, sensuous and moody, something any dedicated relic hunter will love to discover. The rest of the lp is good as well, but this is the only real dance track.
In similar vein is Crash: "Ekstasis" from 1975, kind of an ambient/chill downbeat prototype with wind sounds and abstract wailing noises. This is in no comp but I wouldn't be surprised if it was sooner or later. "Valley of Temples" by Spin is similar, discoey post-exotica with moogs and other great sounding electronic instruments of unknown origin. Dusty vinyls I bought during the last few weeks I'm positive will be in no comp anytime ever include:
Adam Scandy Super Band: Piranha - fast rattling galloper with a nice girlie chorus
Lucrethia Lips: I'm a Viper - snarling slutty sounding female vocals over Munich-style instrumentation
Susy Pintus: C'est Magnifique - not the St Esmeralda tune but a fun disco version of the French music hall standard
Krenzell: Drum Dream - catchy classy flowing Amant-type thing
Mike Henson: And The Music Played - I'd swear it's Love&Kisses, a medley of Demis Roussos faves
Stephen Schlaks: Mooncake - like "Dance It's My Life"
On The Rocks: Come To Bahia - like Ultimate
Disco Baby Band: Baby Sitter - good tune, some annoying infant screams
Fantasy: Cantando - typically Mediterranean chants over smooth beats
Paul Maddux: Somewhere - the West Side Story tune, from 1976
El Pasador: Tu Amo - Bimbo Jet mixed with Chocolat's
Black Beauty: Ole G'Cancaceiro - Brazilia pop disco
New York City Rhythm Band: Art Deco - like baby face
Stelvio Cipriano: Anonimo Veneziano Disco - famed Italian crime movie composer goes dancing, 1977.
Sunny, Betty and Jo with The Patitucci Orchestra: I Love You Maestro - extremely tacky
Crazy Colours Orchestra: Bass Construction - nice instrumental
Sunset Company: Top - midtempo thumping ethnic euro funk
The Birds of Malligator: Soul Finger - I thought this Cerrone production would feature the girl singers but no. However, it's very well done with intense string arrangements and sharp brass
Robby McDonald Orchestra: Tarzan/Cheetah - wild noises, violins, catchy chorus, cheesy vocals
Peppermint L: One Thousand Years After Elton John - puzzling title, great sleazy eurodisco from 1977
Wonder: I Woman / I Man - fast zipping tracks, in former a wankish male growls: You look at me and I turn into ...A WOMANNN!
Matia Bazar: Gran Bazar - jazzy 10 minute percussive eurodisco
Le Streghe: Overture/Gregorian Chant/Lucifer and The Witch - from a very good Costandinos-style concept lp
and finally, after decades: Gramophone Revival : Disco Carmen - a Fly Robin Fly-like rhythm topped by a ludicrous opera diva vocalist, totally ott. Why isn't anyone putting out a cd compliation of THIS kind of horrible, bad taste, uncool, addictive stuff?
