Waffles from Brussels look like the one for us Americans!
Perhaps one of the most important topics on this site ever...
Yesterday I was eating Waffles at my friends funfair-restaurant and we were discussing the fact that Americans always talk about Belgian Waffles. But which waffle are Americans pointing at?
In Belgium we have mainly three varieties:
- Waffles from Brussels:

They are eaten warm with whipped cream and/or strawberries
(I can eat those daily)
-Waffles from Liege:

They are eaten warm and without anything else, they are very sweet.
-The famous Mother Ciska waffles:

They are heart-shaped and eaten with whipped cream/strawberries or sirup.
I know it's a highly intellectual subject but we just need to know
:o

Yep, it's the one from Brussels that is known in USA...
I prefer that one too... That Liege version is just awful...
Be aware that USA pancakes are much smaller and thicker that the traditional Belgian version...
Also, French toast is Belgian, but we call it "lost Bread" or "wentelteefje" literally translated as "turn-around-bitch"...
And last but not least, French fries is a Belgian invention, therefore it should be called Belgian fries... Here once agian, the Belgian version is thinner...
Don't get me started on the beer and the chocolate...![]()
Want good food, travel Belgium!
Just to confuse matters.
In the UK we tend to have Waffles that are savoury (made from some sort of reconstituted potato ingredient). Kids love 'em with their fish fingers and personally I've never known anyone have Waffles as a dessert.
I know you American types love your pancakes, but on my trip to Canada to see my brother, I found the sweetness of the pancakes and the gallons of Maple Syrup just toooooo much. And for breakfast?????!!!!
Talk about heart attacks waiting to happen.
