Hi all. A while ago I've been asking you's when syndrums were first used in music as I've pretty much not heard of any disco related songs prior to 1978 using syndrums apart from that reggae song "Sticks Man" by Black Slate.
Anyways just been listening to "El Caravanero" by Chocolat's from 1977 and the song has quite a few higher pitched ping sounds plus some computer-like synth sounds which were used in EWF's "Biyo". Anyways I was wondering if anyone can tell me if these ping sounds are from a syndrum or were they from a synthesizer/sequencer?

Although both are Belgian productions (Black Slate + Chocolats) I'm pretty confident that on the Chocolat's track they were using sequencers. Don't forget that another legendary producer, Pierre Henry was already experimenting with those sounds in the late 60's.
One of his tracks "Psyche Rock" was remixed by Fat Boy Slim a few years ago. If you listen to that one, you can clearly compare those sounds with the ones on the "El Caravenero" track which can also be mixed with "Jerky Rhythm" by Erotic Drum Band.
