Love Unlimited - It May Be Winter Outside
Nina Simone - My baby Just Cares For Me (Suddenly that one charted again in the 80s)
Me again...
I don't know about the rest of you, but in my clubbing days there was always a cheesy/novelty pop track (usually a 7")that the DJ would stick on towards the end of the night, and so by default became a bit of a cult classic...some examples spring to mind for me...
"Let It Swing" by Bobbysocks
"The Chosen Few" and "Wanted" by The Dooleys
"I'm In The Mood For Dancing" by The Nolans
etc, etc....
Any of you have examples, or was it just a Birmingham thing, lol? :D

Good grief, those two are too cool to be cheesy! lol :D
My old local gay club in Stoke used to play 'Round The Old Camp Fire' by Foo Foo Lamarr at the end of the night & the bouncer Cynthia (a man!) did a little dance to it & everyone would join in (is it any wonder I moved to manchester? :-?)
Would that be The Excalibur by any chance?Originally Written by SandraDee
Yes that's the one Bolly. It had different names over the years but it was best when it was the excalibur & owned by Bob & Ray. They used Roy Stanier as DJ & he was brilliant IMO.
I only went the once - we used to stick a pin in a map on a saturday night and find the nearest gay club. Ended up in Bristol on night!Originally Written by SandraDee
I used to be like that; in the late 80s & early 90s I'd travel miles to different clubs but these days I don't even go down the road to Manchester, let alone anywhere else! (it's either my age or just that clubs are useless these days! )
It's definitely the clubs - I don't go into 'Disneyland Manchester' unless forcedOriginally Written by SandraDee

I always used to laugh at Silk n Steel - Don't Talk To Strangers the line 'Don't ever fool around and get caught with your knickers down...' used to crease me
That's really spooky 'cos I've just been listening to that Silk & Steel track tonight. Have we entered the twilight zone? :-?
trippy very trippy - we could be long lost twins - i guess we'll find out when we meet up later in the weekOriginally Written by SandraDee
Seperated at birth!? :-? When we meet it'll be just like 'Surprise,Surprise' where those long-lost relatives meet for the 1st time in years.Neil can be Cilla.(now that will be a shock to him!) :o
the other reason is you could be the guy who robbed my entire collection out of my car in bradford in 1989.... lol
Never been to Bradford, honest guv. :(

Surely no-one can beat The Broads - Sing Sing Sing as pure unadulterated cheese! ;)
do do, wah wah, everybody sing!!! lol :D
Well I still go to the former Excalibur in Stoke, it's now called The Club, still a gay club of sorts but Saturdays sees a straight DJ who likes to play 'Children of the Night" by Happy Hardcore as a last song. No gay anthems at all, mainly R&B for the str8 girls who dance round their handbags in their fab 'gay theme' bar....Nice to know us gays are there to be stared at....

Oh tell me about it. It's the same in the Manchester 'gay' village. You feel like you're there to provide entertainment for the straight couples & hen parties.

That brought back a lot of memories. I bet if they put the record on you could do all the movements too, even though you fled to Manchester. I'm pretty sure I could.
Yes Excalibur was good but I also liked it when they moved to that big shed across the road. Cynthia still did the record at the end for years. I got dragged up on stage once to do it because I was moving away to college the next day (I was set up).
I can't remember wher it was done (if it was Stoke or Manchester) but where did they do the Court of King Caracticus (is that how it was spelt)? That was all hand movements that had everbody going.
toto
PS - do you remember when they used to sell cassettes with the latest tunes mixed. I think they originated from Birmingham and they would be sold at the Excalibur at a little record bar (I recall a quick trawl through the reocrds whilst holding a vodka in one hand was compulsory for me). I found a load of those cassettes a couple of weeks ago when I was sorting out my flood. They seem to be late 80s. lots of SAW etc.
