Sick of cd's thinking about Ipods.

I need some opinions on Ipod__this is the lastest so called audio medium. I'm sick and tired of cd's__they scratch too easy and multiply too easy(I have stacks of old cd's and messed-up cds :x ) What are some of the advantages of Ipods vs. cd's ie: sound quality, can they be connected to other sources of audio(like my dj equipment and home stereo system?), can they record from any source of audio, can they erase audio, how much music can they hold__bottom line are they worth buying or should I stick to the cd medium? Thanks in advance

    Ipods!

Ipod is good for reference when trying to listen to multiple tracks in a short time, however the sound quality of the compressed file is crap. It cannot replace cd and cd cannot replace a good mint vynil. Unfortunately the newer generation has no regard for fidelity so they think an ipod sounds great. There is something called a peak limiter that reduces the quality of the track even from a cd. yes again i use it for reference and with headphones u are ok, but if a dj ever used ipods as a main source, they should be shot.

Don't even think of a HD mp3 player as a substitute to CD:s other than for your personal use while on the move (walking, on buses and trains etc.)
I asume you have a computer. Try downloading the trial version of Virtual DJ (www.virtualdj.com)

It's a blast. You get most out of it if you have a soundcard where you can monitor with headphones etc. (that is at least 4 channels)

You can use uncompressed Wav files or mp3´s.

If I would ever DJ again this is the software I should use.

F.Y.I. The iPod can play uncompressed full fidelity audio with excellent results.

So does the Rio Karma also (and it can even play Flac). I think the small harddisks in these devices are not built for that kind of excessive use in the long run. And also the batteries drain fasters when playing uncompressed files.
