I agree with Bernie, that's what i've always understood it to stand for. Before GQ weren't some of these guys in the Rhythmn Makers?

    Gentlemen's Quarterly is a men's magazine

    Military definition = General Quarters

Also, there is the unofficial interpretation from a slang back in the day.
As Nicky said, GQ also stands for the magazine Gentleman's Quarterly. Well, back in the 70s, early 80s there was a slang that would go "you're GQ'd down." That meant you were, styling, well dressed, Halston, Gucci... :D
You'll notice these guys were always well dressed on the album covers so the assumption was they were playing into the slang.

Is that what inspired one of their songs of that name?

    GQ could also stand for:

    Giggly Queens

    Geranium Quest

    German Quarantine

No guys, you're all wrong, it means "Go Quinny", the chant many Disco visitors are using when they are excited by the performances of our beloved fellow member!

Since we are talking about GQ, what other songs do you like beside "Disco Nights (Rock Freak)"? Also, the only version I have is the one from "Mega Hits Dance Classics, Volume 3" (1989).

Is this the original version of the song? The record label is Priority Records.

Their first LP (I think :-? ) has a track called "GQ Down" that's why I asked. They look very dapper on their LP covers.

Being a big collecter of "slowjams" also, A couple of great ones from GQ were "I Do Love U" "Sad Girl" and "Sitting in the Park" Uptempo-wize I love "Standing Ovation" from them, Check out their Greatest hits CD (there are a couple) the one with the most songs on it has a few nice dance tunes, I don't have it in front of me and I can't recall any titles. :D

I'm not sure if I still have the "Disco Nights" album. If so I'll check out the "GQ Down" track.
I used to play 'em a lot esp. "Standing Ovation." Now I'm a little burned out so the only thing I listen to is "Disco Nights."
