DOLANNES MELODIE : the tragic saga of ....

    *****

I don't know what section to mention this piece under . :-?

..... Tonight I have played an old 45 floating around here ... that has unexpectedly blown me away . It is called Dolannes Melodie by Jean-Claude Borelly and his Orchestra / London , 1975. Side A version features Jean-Claude on trumpet ..side B version features him on Pipes of Pan.
No not disco at all ... I thought because of the orchestra ...perhaps ....
But this a very haunting , tasteful simple instumental piece ..sounding like a theme to a (very) sad movie ....
Can anyone tell me more about the song and the artist? I am now very tempted to seek out an album ... advisable ?

Thanks.... I now go to bed quite moved by this sad tune and somewhat sullen ....

Remicks is having a great time here

If you like the sound of Jean Claude Borelli, also check out the Italian trumpeteer Fausto Papetti, great lounge sounds and beautiful album covers:

At the right time and the right moment I really can enjoy those sounds

BTW, Papetti is a saxplayer, not a trumpeteer. Sorry about that!

And n° 7 on the last list you posted is one of my all time favourites: I Santo California: Tornero. Man, that's a romantic record!!!

Why the ?????? with Hello's New York Groove?

This was a fairly good attempt at a funk groove, for what was a very, very poppy UK band. One of those records that surprised and fooled almost everyone, the first time they heard it. Rather like the Glitter Band's Makes You Blind did, albeit that MYB was much more uptempo and taken more seriously by the club crowd.

:D Quinny ...I put those question marks beside "NEW YORK GROOVE " hoping someone would comment .... because I'm not familiar with the tune and was wondering based on the title if it should be highlighted as "disco". I haven't seen it anywhere in Marky's 300 disco songs of 1975.

.. Anyway you got my curiousity so I acquired it and gave it a listen !!! :o
From its intro .... I thought it was going to be : THEY"RE COMING TO TAKE ME AWAY HA HA ( if the censensus ever becomes that TCTTMAHH was the first disco song .... I will shoot myself !.. :D ) But then it kicks in to this Bo Diddly / Hand Jive little ditty .... it's not bad .... but I can see why "NEW YORK GROOVE " didn't have 'em groovin' in .... New York!!

Videoskooter .... It is a classic and it does have my respect .... as a kid it sounded sort of scary ... someone being dragged off ... the sirens and all .... but I bought it anyway .. and listening to the flip was even more unnerving ..... I'm sure you know why .....

I just recently got Stan Freeberg's "Rock Payola Blues" and got a big chuckle out of that one .... :) .

Now on to "I Santo California " .....OK it's not bad ... quite good really .... just too gabby for my taste .... especially when you couple that with having no idea what they're going on about.... is there an instrumental version ?? If not .... I'll have to stick with "Moon River " ...... :)

OK .......... OK .... Jean-Claude .... not looking too good here buddy ..... your inimitable " DOLANNES- MELODIE " has gotten its rightful #1 ranking hijacked by this diabolical duo of disco dandies !!! :P  . But even as you rest there at No.3 ... that is what you are doing Jean-Claude , you're resting , .... right?? ..even as you recatch your breath and reignite your momentum ..... .. I can feel it ..... I can sense that this "I'M ON FIRE" tune ain't really all that hot .... losing it's heat .... & ready to plummet ....Come on Jean-Claude .... Miss "LADY BUMP " ... has gotten herself disco bumped right off the top ... and now with her on the way down .... and the overrated 5,000 Volts so vulnerable .... its time to move in for the kill .... topple 5,000 Volts.... demand the throne .... attack !!! 8) :D :D 8)

Now, I can fully understand why the Germans (possibly more than any other country) used to give me a hard time as a DJ in Spain. Really, even the young cats gave me the impression that they'd have been much happier dancing to Umpah! music and Polkas and I never quite figured why at the time.

This chart kinda says it all. :D :D :D

BTW: As a race, they were sex mad!!! At least that was true to form.

Hmmmm, David Hasselhoff is still BIG in Germany. So I guess that you're absolutely right Q. And when I go to funfairs in Germany, young AND old are visiting the beer palaces and hump on Tiroler Holzhacker stuff.

"Drink, drink, brüderlein drink, eins ,zwei, saufen" (To drink, that is the question) is still a classic over there :D

And sex crazy? In the sixties, almost everything was already permitted there on television and in the cinemas and sexshops. It's part of their education, hahahahahaha!

But I'm also gonna use this topic to ask more respect for Disco Fritz Und His Sauerkrautz with "Das Jodelding". Ja ja, zat waz a German Dizco rekord and zis one iz almozt forgotten by many of you here :o :o

Well ...so be it Jean-Claude ..... let's face it ...you're competing against two of the masterpieces of the disco era ... and you're just a simple little calm instrumental ....

Now you've slipped to number three ...... so not sure what all you've got left in you to get that extra ummmph needed to nudge yourself into the #1 slot :( ...... But hey ..... you made it to #2 even with Penny bumpin' you all over .... and that's nothing to sneeze at . Not every great song makes it to the top ...just look at TORNERO's "I SANTO CALIFORNIA" ........ it didn't make it either and people still sing its praises......

I'm not giving up on you yet though Jean-Claude ....not until you drop out of the GERMAN TOP 20 altogether!!! :D You know there's really no other song riding your ass right now . ( but watch it .... here comes that damn ABBA again) .You could still do it ...you really could  ..... Just shove 5,000 Volts and Penny McLean right off their platform shoes and move on in there .... :P :P
Give it another go Jean-Claude ...... the impeccable "DOLANNES MELODIE " is soooo deserving ..... 8) 8) :D
