Going to Sao Paulo and Rio next week. Can you recommend some good VINYL shop for disco and funk stuff and even for old brazilian funky/samba/soul/biossa

In Sao Paulo try Rua 24 de maio, 188. Try a shop called "Ventania" , but there are other shops there.


Try also Rua 24 maio, 116 and look for a shop of a guy called Cassio.

Try also Rua 24 de Maio, 188. The name of the shop is "Gordu's Discos". Look for Sergio. The shop has a big poster of Barry White's face. You have to get the escalator to find the shops.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a good soul/disco/funk vinyl store in Rio. If there was one, I think I would live in it. Or it would be mine.

But there are 2 vinyl stores in which sometimes, once in a while, you find a good rare vinyl album (specially if your collection is not so complete):

1) MODERN SOUND. It is a BIG store which sells CDs and DVDs from around the world, but in the underground floor they have a small old vinyl section. It is located in Copacabana, in Barata Ribeiro Street almost near Santa Clara Street. I don't know the number.

2) TRACKS. There are better soul albums than Modern Sound. There are a few imports by FIFTH DIMENSION, EDDIE KENDRICKS, O'JAYS, MFSB, SALSOUL ORCHESTRA, EL COCO, and some new 12" house releases. It is located In Praça Santos Dummont, Gávea.

3) WORLD MUSIC. Only 12" new HOUSE & TECHNO releases. (near Modern Sound).

I really don't know the adress of those stores (the number). So give me a call when you arrive in Rio and I will get you there. (2224-1037)

There are 1 or 2 more which sells domestic old vinyl releases, but normally the records are toooooo scratched. i should not even mention those, but if you want to check them, I'll take you there.
