PS - Only listed the most obvious labels - I know there were many small labels out there during the 80s...
Thought I would ask members which HINRG record labels they love the most.....

You missed out on Megatone Records. Many great releases from Sylvester to Patrick Cowley.
Oooooh, now this is a hard one!!! (oo-er!!)
Some of my favourite tracks were released on all of these labels...I was tempted to go for either Carrere (home of the holiday hit!) or Teldec (Fun Fun's German label) but bought British and went for Record Shack...just for the memories of buying classics by Eartha, Miquel and Earlene with birthday money and/or my first wages!!! Not forgetting the fantastic Break Machine (joke!!!) :D
It`s a shame RECORD SHACK folded... According to "insider info"they got too ambitious and pressed too many copies of later releases that just did not sell enough copies... :cry:Originally Written by phrankie
Well thats just the fault of the buggery bollocks bastard peasants (sweetie darling!) that make up the majority of the british public who don't appreciate good music when they hear it!!!
ermm.. My sentiments exactly... :o :lol:Originally Written by phrankie
Sorry, got caught up in an Ab Fab moment there!!!!
hey fella - we have all had those moments.. :lol:Originally Written by phrankie
It is a shame about Record Shack - for a time they were the most successful independent label in the UK - Some achievement !
It is, especially when, if you mention "independent label" to some people, they think of boring students droning on whilst producing feedback over about three chords played continuously!!!! Let's not forget, PWL was an independent!!!
Exactly. PWL was probably more successful than some of the Major labels....!!Originally Written by phrankie
But was never seen as "trendy and hip" enough to warrant much praise...
Your right - but Pete Waterman was laughing all the way to the bank :lol:Originally Written by phrankie
Record Shack IS very popular amongst us HINRG fans
The trouble with Record Shack was the way Ian promoted only his records for the boystown charts in Record Mirror!
Got even worse when he started up Nightmare records.
No wonder Record Mirror scrapped the chart.
The best stuff on R Shack was signed from other labels anyway ;)
Shy Rose - I Cry For You :)
Proto anyone?
12" of pleasure - a title which always bought a smile to me face.
Have to agree with Megatone though - the US hi-nrg sound was better imho.
I was listening to SHY ROSE the other day - I CRY FOR YOU is superb !Originally Written by marmite7
It was a shame that the RM HINRG chart got scrapped - we all depended on it...
Record Shack released some classic HINRG over the years - Some of the later stuff on NIGHTMARE was rather dodgy....
PASSION releases were always of a high quality and MEGATONE as well
