    Barbara Doust

Barbara Doust is a fave of mine... IF YOU LOVE SOMEBODY is a HINRG classic - I was going through my record collection over the weekend and found a very rare 12" promo that she did called DANCE IN NEON LIGHT - It was a limited edition promo on Loading Bay records - I am not sure if it got a proper release.
Its a great track - she is a fantastic vocalist - I believe she also worked with the group TAPPS....

There was a US 12" for "Dance In Neon Light" with Tom Moulton and Vince DeGiorgio mixes that I think was a full commercial release but was on a very small label called Spinner Records that didn't get very wide distribution at the time it seemed. I'm not sure if the label even had any other releases actually, I don't think I saw any others. "Dance In Neon Light" did pretty well on the old DMA Hi-NRG chart as well.

This release was fantastic...one of the very best 12" singles in my collection....called the Tom Moulton Pure Ecstacy Mix. He took the original wonderful mix and created an 11:37 hi-nrg masterpiece. I highly recommend it!

In 1994, Spinner Records, out of Boulder Colorado (of all places!) did release a few other tunes...most notably another Tom Moulton mix, this time of The Power Of Love by Panorama...another ten minute plus winner.

They put out a compilation cd called Neon City Nights with both mixes on it plus some other nice hi-nrg tunes.

Cool, I haven't heard this one, is it a cover of the Jennifer Rush/Celine Dion song?

Yes, it was released in the US. Don't recall it being that big of a hit.

I have never heard her version of the Cher track. Barbara Dosut is a graet vocalist and its a pity she did not release more material

I think it was a cover of the Jennifer Rush song, and I have it somewhere. To be 100% sure I have to dig it out. Do you have any specific questions regarding this record or do just want to know which song was covered? It may take time till If find this record (provided that I still have it).

Hey Energyguy, Yes, the Barbara Doust releases "If You Love Somebody" and "Dance In Neon Light" are FAB. I didn't buy "I Found Someone." Strangely this track didn't grab my interest.

The Spinner single which was discussed earlier in this thread featured Vince's Glorious Glitzy Radio Mix, Best Boy-Key Grip Mix, Vince's Advanced Technology Remix, Tom Moulton's Pure Ecstasy Edit and Tom Moulton's Ecstasy Radio Edit.

IF YOU LOVE SOMEBODY is one of my al time favourite HINRG tracks - I like the remix by Ian Levine.

    Ref. Barbara Doust:

Does anybody know if there were various mixes of "Take Me As I Am" and if she ever released an album, perhaps on the Canadian POWER label?

I am Canadian and was a huge fan of the POWER label ; and no BARBARA DOUST never did release a full-length album during her stay on POWER.

I've read many interviews with label head VINCENT DeGIORGIO where he said he was working on this and that [including an album project with BARBARA but nothing ever came out of it].

TAKE ME AS I AM was the bonus track from the POWER'S GREATEST HITS and in the liner notes ; Vince says that it is a "new" track , recorded after her DANCE IN NEON LIGHTS.

I wonder if the tracklist is the same as the REUNION:POWER'S GREATEST HITS from Canada ?

I loved the original productions on POWER and its sister label [BOULEVARD];they were also big on licensed import singles. So you might find stuff on POWER like MAN 2 MAN.Their IAN LEVINE produced single WHO KNOW WHAT EVIL ? was on POWER.

One thing I loved was the double sided singles with their POWER CLASSICS.
I remember one killer KNOCK ON WOOD remake by FRANCINE KERR.

Not as memorable as AMII STEWART's version but there was something about this record that stuck with me...I have to rip it and put it in my iPod.

I have never heard that version of KNOCK ON WOOD.. Sounds interesting.
I think most of Iam Levines NIGHTMARE releases were licensed to POWER during the 80s..

I just found an old issue of a DMR and in the HiNRG column by DEAN FERGUSON ; he writes...

"Vince Degiorgio's triumphant return to the HiNRG arena with BARBARA DOUST's fast tracking DANCE IN NEON LIGHTS bodes well for the return-to- favor of traditional purist fare. He's already hard at work polishing Doust's follow-up track TAKE ME AS I AM [132 bpm],which he hopes will precede a full-length album he's got planned for her before the end of the year is out.
It's an ambitious project that he intends to fill with first rate "original" HiNRG material and a few carefully chosen remakes including MADLEEN KANE's "YOU & I".

Tahnks for psoting that bit of interesting info. Shame the album never surfaced.. It makes you wonder how many other great HINRG artists recorded tracks that never saw the light of day...

    Re: Barbara Doust

The article goes on to list other famous POWER acts with their respective follow-ups like CRYSTAL IN THE PINK's LET'S DO IT AGAIN,FIRE & ICE's 'FOR THE LOVE OF HIM" [a BOBBI MARTIN cover] and originally conceived as an ELLYN HARRIS vehicle.

    None were ever released.

DeGIORGIO goes on to say that his all-time favorite diva is PATTIE BROOKS and that he would go anywhere in the world to produce PAMALA STANLEY.

I was so much into collecting everything on CASABLANCA RECORDS that I got into PATTIE.Her albums were great with SIMON SOUSSAN and later on with BUNNY SIGLER and the members from INSTANT FUNK.

But right after AFTER DARK ; my all-time favorite guilty pleasure from PATTIE has got to be her JUERGEN KOPPERS' produced 12inch GOT TU GO DISCO.

    The sound was incredible...
