I have a Reggea version of RAPPERS DELIGHT. It's called ROCKERS CHOICE, and its done by XANADU & SWEET LADY (its got a female vocals) and was produced by Joe Gibbs & the professionals. Released on JOE GIBBS RECORD 1979.
The A-side is RAPPERS DELIGHT wich is musically and lyrical almost similar as the original song, but with the female rapping. (always fun to mix it in a set with the original version)
The B-side is ROCKERS CHOICE wich is a very good slowed-down reggea-version of the original music. Again with the vocals of Xanadu & SWEET Lady, but with a different lyrics singing:
CO CAINE CO CAINE
GO STRAIGHT TO YA BRAIN
OR WOULD YA'LL LIKE TO TAKE A LITTLE WIFF
OF AN IRIE IRIE CALLED A SPLIFF
MO BAY, MO BAY
ROYAL CARABIAN
IN CASE YA DIDNT NOW WHATS GOING DOWN
THIS IS DA JAMAICAN VERSION TO THE GOOD TIMES SOUND
> So in fact its a reggea version of GOOD TIMES by CHIC!
But there are a lots more of these disco-Reggea versions out there!
I once heard a reggea version of STAYING ALIVE (by the BeeGeesin case ya didn't know, duh) I can't remember who sang that Reggea version, but it wasn't all that great.
Also there's a lot of reggea versions of classic Soul songs! I recently purchased this album: Darker Than Blue - Soul from Jamdown (1973-1980) on Blood & Fire Records.
(check it on Amazon for more info!)
Peace,
