    remicks,

How about adding the point totals for each record? :-?

Why don't you do this for other artists? Maybe just a Top 5 for those with fewer "hits" than HRH Donna. :D (Like your "fave" Evelyn "Champage" King!!!--you could do a Top SONG (singular) for her; ditto, Cheryl Lynn!!!) :P

Or you could do one of those "poll" things--never figured out how that works myself. It seems like I tried to do it and failed--but then... it's a misty water-colored memory at this point.

    Thanks Remicks

That is pretty interesting. thanks for the Top 10. Kinda sad that "Dim all the Lights" is not top 10. Hopefully it's #11.

Wow...This is interesting...I've always loved Donna's "I Feel Love"...However, I don't remember this song as being a favorite song that 1977 kids liked to dance to. I remember many thought it was too fast, long, and monotonous...Personally, I really liked it...Perhaps a bit ahead of its time though... Take Care.... Mario 8)

I pretty much agree with the list as far as my tastes go. 'I Feel Love' can never get all the respect it deserves IMO. If anyone feels the 12" is monotonous and too long, stick with the album version (5:52 or so). There's nothing new in the extended version, just plain repeats. In fact I've played around with 30 minute + versions of it before just for fun and editing practice, and still didn't get bored 8)

I used to love 'Dim All The Lights' until I heard Laura Branigan's version and thought "Good lord, this is a stupid and repetitive song!" So I listened to Donna's original again and sure enough, too repetitive, but disguised well.. however Laura really ruined it for me (I still love you Laura, RIP). For a real shocker, listen to the extended version (on Dance Collection and Bad Girls Deluxe). Talk about repetitive.. and horribly edited, in fact all extendeds from that album suffer the same problem with the exception of the title track, though it still has one bad edit.

Speaking of edits, 'Try Me' is way too long on the album, way too short in single form... great song though, just requires some tightening.

It's been several months since this was compiled and there are many newer members ... as well as older ones that didn't submit , so I thought I'd bring it back up in the hopes that there'd be some renewed interest.

Also .... if someoe wants to suggest the next act to rank ... say for an "official" TOP 5 list ..... let's do it !! I'll keep score .... :D

For now though , here's the current assignment .... list your TOP 10 Donna Summer songs in the precise order of pleasure .

    Easy enough !! :)

    .....or is it ??

I'm a bit disappointed that people choose

her best know songs. I love many Donna Summer songs that are not well known. Examples: "Can't We Just Sit Down (And Talk it Over?)", "The Only One", "Wasted", "One of a Kind", "Love's Unkind", "Cold Love", "Now I Need You", "I Remember Yesterday".....

Rank 'em up OSF .....your faves are your faves !! :D

Just keep in mind that the idea is to come to a group agreement as to what were Donna's very best contributions .... The # 1 on thru to # 10 ...

It's probably impossible for me to say which Donna Summer song is my absolute No. 1 favorite, so here's a list of 10 favorite recordings by Donna, (mostly) in no particular order:

Once Upon a Time Side 4 (as close to a No. 1 favorite as I can come; when will some label remaster and reissue this classic??!)

MacArthur Park Suite (although I would never rank "Heaven Knows" as a favorite by itself)

Once Upon a Time Side 1 (come on, who among us doesn't think of these album cuts as parts of a greater whole?)

    "Last Dance"

"Could It Be Magic" (one of the best songs ever written recorded by one of the greatest voices ever; imagine how great this would sound if she had really cut loose!)

"Hot Stuff/Bad Girls" (forever one song in my mind and on my CD player)

"Friends Unknown" (brings a tear to my eye)

"This Time I Know It's for Real" ('80s dance pop at its best, with personal relevance too)

"With Your Love" (the first song I ever heard in a gay disco!)

and... hmmm... either "She Works Hard for the Money" or "Lush Life" (I don't care that everyone else hated it!)

Now those are a couple of nice, well thought out lists !! :D
I hope you found the challenge rewarding and enjoyable. 8)

Thanks for taking the time to participate ! :D ( to discokicks and WolverSyr also)

By the way ...........although very hard to do ( impossible ?) but a kick to try to accomplish ..... the biggest challenge of this task is to rank them in a preferred order .....basically .... if you're going to rescue a Donna Summer song from a sinking ship ....which one do you grab first .... grab second and so on.... until you've got the tenth one in your hand as the ship goes down .....

Those lists that do not specifically rank them as such ........ when tabulated , each song will get counted equally .... that is to say ... one lil' point each ......

Re: discomusic.com members' DONNA SUMMER TOP 10

    *****

To honor our beloved Donna Summer

all the TOP 10s submitted ( in both threads) past, present, and future will be reconfigured into one group ranking .

    Here's how it works:

All #1 songs get ten points
All #2 songs get nine points
on down to the tenth song receiving one point.

If anyone wants to update their previous list , feel free to do it. ( I want update mine . LOVE IS THE HEALER has kind of faded some for me since 2005.)

The TOP TEN need to be IN ORDER to get pointed properly . (ten songs in order , please!)

Random , non-ordered lists will get included but will have less impact , the ten songs listed will get one point each !
Lists that include only five titles (or whatever less-than-ten number) I will assume are the poster's top five favorite DS songs so they'll get counted with ten through six points .

    Very respectable list Funkin .
And I trust that will be the order we'll find them appearing further along the way up the Disco 1000 ?! (sshhh!?)
