    Pop goes HINRG - Unusal artists to have a HINRG hit!

    In your opinions what have been surprising HINRG hits?

    For example;

    Olivia Newton John - The Rumour
    B52's - Summer of love (Shep Pettibone 12" mix)
    Kim Carnes - Invitation to dance
    Elton john - I don't want to go on with you like that.

    Any more?

    THE RUMOUR is a great dance track - I have the original version on the 1988 album - The 12" remix is superb - one of my favourites from that year

    Recently I have seen a few dodgy HINRG compilation CDS - With stuff by 70s disco artists featured on it - not really HINRG at all....

    Exactly. While some of the real good stuff which was really popular and hasn't been availible for ages goes unreleased! If they were they would fly out the doors. I know, I used to be singles/ cd comp buyer at HMV Brighton!

    We used to sell cart loads. The main thing is that we used to get asked for the 80's stuff like the Flirts, Earlene Bentley, Risque, Aleph, etc. On UK labels. I used to tell the reps, but that fell on deaf ears. Missed sales opportunity there I think!.

    You very rarely see much HINRG stuff in the big stores nowadays, which is sad - I get all mine from hours of searching back street shops !!

    Give it another 10 years...many labels are busy releasing disco product (better late than never, I suppose). They'll get to Hi-NRG and realize what a market they've been ignoring all along.

    Don't forget Raquel Welch's "This Girl's Back In Town", the dance mix for ZZ Top's "Legs", and the Latin Rascal's complete remix/overhaul of Taxxi's "Still in Love".

    I *love* that song! First time I heard it at a club, I thought it was an Italian disco record. Imagine my surprise when it was good ol' Barry!

    A really unusual artist to have a hi-nrg hit is David Knopfler who used to be in rock group Dire Straits ( :o )(& Mark's brother.) I only recently heard 'Shockwave' from '85 & couldn't believe my ears; it has a rhythm that's not dissimilar to Laura Branigan's 'Shattered Glass' IMO! You guys have got to hear it.

    Al Corley's "Square rooms" is one of my all time faves...liked his "Cold Dresses" follow up too...reminds me of the time that TOTP used to feature the Europarade every two weeks or so...I loved it! Seeing FR David, Ryan Paris etc before they were released in the UK...good marketing for Carrere Records too, who seemed to release the most Eurohits in the UK in the early/mid 80's

    Hi Rich...I found a 12" copy of SQUARE ROOMS the other day - not a bad track at all - Another one for the collection
    Carrere records seemed to do especially well during the 1980s dance boom
