This probably went as a topic before , but i was not there , just wandering how Disco started , first band , male and female singer .
For me i find Soul finger - THE BAR-KAYS (1967) probably the first funky disco oriented song , let me know ..thanx RU.
The best that you can do is to search [Search] for the topic that you are looking for by typing "Early disco" or "First disco song" both in the title and in the message body. There has been A LOT of topics concerning that thread.
All the best,
Masdefi
A good example of early disco sounds can be found on the excellent album i recently bought:
PHILADELPHIA ROOTS, the sound of Philadelphia * Funk, Soul and the roots of disco 1965-73.
Out on SOUL JAZZ RECORDS
It features fantastic examples of Philadelphia music that originated the whole disco movement! its even pre-dated as what is discribed as Philly Soul. It's mush funkier!
Featuring artist such as:
CLIFF NOBLES & CO > THE HORSE!
PANIC BUTTON > O WOW
and PHILLY SOUND > Waiting for the rain
(3 original groundbreaking protoypes of instrumental disco! )
BRENDA & THE TABULATIONS > CALIFORNIA SOUL / HEY BOY
BUNNY SIGLER ! > GREAT BIG LIAR
PEOPLES CHOICE > Let me do my thing
and others...
(a lot of early "GAMBLE and HUFF" productions on the album)
If ya really need to know about what originated disco, then get this album, its fantastic. I enjoy it from the first to the last song!
Plus the album features great liner notes on the history of the songs, and its creators!
