Just wondering, Did Donna Summer say when she will have an album with new songs?
Jsut saw the diva tonite. She still has it. What a vocal range.
These cheeseball singers of today can't compare.
Just wondering, Did Donna Summer say when she will have an album with new songs?
She gave no indication about a new album.
Gawd, how I wish HRH Donna, Giorgio and Pete Bellotte would collaborate one more time. :D I just know they have more gems up their respective sleeves. It probably wouldn't do much in the pop market, but dance clubs would certainly play it, wouldn't they? PROBABLY ONLY AFTER THE "SPOILER" REMIXERS OF TODAY ELIMINATED ALL THE GOOD STUFF--SO ONY A BEAT AND ONE REPEATED WORD REMAINED--BUT AT LEAST WE'D HAVE THE ORIGINAL MIXES!!! And that's about all we can ask for in this era of "DECONSTRUCTION."    :x :x :x
Last night I was shopping at Amoeba and they started playing a funky new tune with a great basssline--sorta Lakeside/Gap Band and I thought "Oh, I kinda like this." I waited for the song to start. Six minutes later the song still hadn't started. There was no song--just a bassline. But that's all they seem to want these days. But it was a good bassline. (Probably lifted/ stolen from something back in the day.)

Two questions :
1) Marky : Get anything good at Amoeba? & What's up with their 12" section ... next to nothing old .... all minor league stuff and very $$$$ ?
Is that the norm?
2) PANCH : Anything more aout Donna's
concert? Did she perform everything??? Did her band teasingly start with "LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY " several times before she finally actually performed it ? Did she have audience members come up and help with back up on "ON THE RADIO "? How big was the orchestra? 8) 8) :D

gawd, what's up with this board today??? I keep having to log-in every few minutes!!! :x  :x
Well, to answer your question, remicks...about $100 worth of stuff!!!
I mostly got LPs:
Blue Magic (had "The Magic of the Blue" and their version of "We're On the Right Track"; cost around $12--but it was sealed.
Original "Disco Gold" LP ($3.00)
Players Association LP from 1974 with "Put Your Music Where Your Mouth Is"
Another copy of Vivian Vee's 12' of "Give Me a Break/ Remember"
Esther Phillips did a disco cover of "Our Day Will Come" from 1979
Satin & Stephanie (?) or something like that --12" produced by Michael Zager
Two Dynamic Superiors LPs written & produced by Ashford & Simpson
Salsoul Orchestra LP with "Magic Bird of Fire"--I was looking for the one with "My Numbers Up"--this was the purpose of the whole trip!!! Maybe next time--I'll be lucky!!![]()
I found a 12" of Deniece Williams wonderful "I Found Love"!!! CHEAP!!!
12" of Salazar with "1-2-3" on one side and "Let's Hang On" on the flip. Both charted according to the Billboard book.
Motown Discotech #4 (I think) that had "Don't Bring Back Memories" (or something like that) by The Four Tops (This is on the Disc-o-la Fortune 500 and I couldn't find it on any of their LPs.)
That's all I can recall at the moment. Anyway, it cost $100.47--I do recall that!!!
That'll be Saint & Stephanie - here's their LP:Originally Written by markydefad

Darren
I didn't realise that Players Association did anything before 1977.
Don't know about a new album (she is supposed to have said that she is recording one in October but she's been saying things like that for years) but she has a website http://www.donnasummer.com/ which plays four newish songs and states that the one that was played on Sex In The City will be available from itunes soon.Originally Written by discotom73

She started the show with " Works Hard for the Money".
The radio hits included
1. Enough is Enough
2. Bad Girls
3. Hot Stuff
4. McArthur Park- full version
5. Last Dance (the closing number)
6. On the radio
Other songs included
1. Once upon a time
2. Smile ( a song written by Charlie Chaplin)
3. Nights in White Satin ( Moody Blues)
Some 2-3 other songs -more obscure.
The string section was 10 persons: violins, violas, bass, cellos etc..
Overall excellent. She is touring now.
I am seeing Ms Summer this Sunday evening. can hardly wait, afterwards the TMC in Dallas will be playing Trash disco to dance to. Guess I may call in "sick" come Monday morning. I am so glad i hear she is singing MacArthur's Park long version.
I'm going to see her August 4'th at Mohegan Sun.
She can still pack an 11,000 seat arena!
Saw Ms Summer last night. She put on a great show. I was sooooo happy when she sang "Dim all the Lights". Today's paper gave her a great review. I didn't know she had an autiobiography out. I definetley have to check it out.............
Skip her autobiography.

 that's for sure
unless you do what I did and "check it out" .......... from the library. ( it's so bad though , even the $1.60 late fee pissed me off )
I love the talented lady's singing .....yet that was the most vapid autobiography I've ever suffered. If you're hoping to get an inside peak at the record industry, Casablanca, Giorgio , disco ... don't waste your time..... "Ordinary Girl" is too generous a description .... :(
I sawher last November and having already read it , I couldn't believe she had the chalupas to have a table in the back selling her book which she promoted most proudly ....... ............

Picked up a VG + copy of Four Seasons Of Love over the weekend
at a flea market for $1.00 and voila :D it included the original packaged 1977 calendar where she pose in the four seasons .She was some hot Mama in her heyday :P Love her slow groove Winter Melody on this album.
I saw her Wednesday night in Atlanta, GA. I was a little disappointed that she ignored some of her major hits in favor of covers of other artists' material (no "I Feel Love", etc.). She had resurrected "Love to Love You Baby" after a 25 year boycott earlier this year, but alas, it was not played (teaser). Some Disco surprises that she sang included "Once Upon a Time", "I Love You" and "Could It Be Magic". She had the good taste not to sing any Eighties/Nineties songs past "She Works Hard for the Money" (maybe because VH1 funded the tour - although I would have enjoyed "This Time I Know It's For Real"). The light show was excellent, and her voice was as powerful as ever. The only reference to a new CD was her itune that can be purchased from the Internet.
