    Disco "LEGEND" Still Working!!!!

I happened to catch the end credits of a primetime network TV summer show and was surprised to see the name of a very prominent figure in 1975 disco listed as it's "musical director." I hadn't read this person's name in any credits for ages. :o

    Anyone know who I mean? As I said--very BIG in 1975. :D 8)

OK, no takers so far, eh? :P Cowards. :P :P :P

This persons name appears 3 times in the top 30 records of 1975. It should have appeared one more time--but I see from just checking that I didn't type it.   Technically, the name appears 4 times on 3 different records in the Top 30.

This is definitely a DISCO performer? Is the person a singer or writer (or both)? I have some idea, but on the other hand, I can't imagine that it is that person..........how's that for a conundrum!

Worst Record of 1975 has to be "Feelings" by Morris Albert but I don't think he was involved with any other songs for that year.

Yes, Harold Wheeler was credited as "musical director" on Dancing With The Stars. (I didn't watch this show--but I think he just helped pick records to dance to--I've seen footage of "dancing" to "I'm So Excited" by the Pointers.)

    Wheeler's credits in 1975 include:

    Broadway show "The Wiz" (arranger)
Ease On Down The Road - Consumer Rapport (co-producer)
   Baby Face - Wing & A Prayer Fife & Drum Corps (co-producer)
Never Can say Goodbye & How High The Moon - Gloria Gaynor (arranger)

What happened to Harold after that, I'm not sure......I should google him.

    Harold Wheeler googled reveals:

Note the "Disco" credits are missing.....

"Harold Wheeler is a Composer, Conductor, Orchestrator, Arranger, Record
Producer, Music Director and Music Supervisor.

Wheeler has the distinction of having been the youngest conductor on Broadway, which came about when Burt Bacharach asked him to conduct his show, Promises, Promises. This was the beginning of a long and distinguished career as conductor, orchestrator and composer of some of Broadway's most memorable hits.

As orchestrator this list includes COCO, Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Wiz, A Chorus Line, Lena Home in The Lady and Her Music, Dreamgirls,
The Tap Dance Kid, The Life (Tony nominee), Side Show, the Roundabout Theatre production of Little Me (Tony Nominee), Swing (Tony nominee), The Full Monty (Tony nominee) and most recently the critically acclaimed Hairspray.

The term "musical genius" is not just a cliche when used to describe Wheeler,
whose credits are not limited only to theatrical productions. He has both arranged and produced for luminaries such as Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Whitney Houston, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Vanessa L. Williams, Brian McKnight, Anita Baker and jazz great Dizzy Gillespie.

One of the accomplishments he is most proud of is his arrangement of music for
Whitney Houston's HBO Special, a tribute to President Nelson Mandela, which was performed after apartheid was established in South Africa. Composition of music for television includes "All My Children", for which he received three Emmy nominations.

Some of his other work for television films include: "Tears and Laughter," "There are no Children Here, " "Stompin at the Savoy, " "The Jacksons - An American Dream, " and "Laurel Avenue. " Along with John Williams, he was also composer of the 1996 Olympics. Wheeler composed the score for the New Line film, Love! Valour Compassion! In addition, he composed for the soon released independent film Spanish Judges. Most recently, Wheeler produced and arranged music for Disney films Keeping the Faith and The Kid."

Ya, that "Baby Face" record is pretty awful. I wasn't even aware Wheeler had anything to do with it.

I knew he was in the DCA stable (Meco, Tony Bongiovi) and I remembered seeing his name as arranger for a few Broadway shows.

Didn't he also do some stuff with Irene Cara?
