I think Entertainment Weekly magazine is just as bad: They will use ANY excuse to put Tom Cruise (and Julia Roberts, for that matter) on their cover. I assume it's mostly about what sells magazines (or, in the case of ET, attracts viewers) but I'm sure it also has something to do with giving only favorable coverage, as in fawning publicity, puffball questions and nothing controversial.
Did anyone else read the profile on Tom Cruise in Time a few weeks ago? Openly gay writer Jess Cagel (formerly of EW!) said the only question everyone asked him about Tom Thumb was if he was gay. Cagel said he's convinced he's NOT, because he showed up for their interview wearing his baseball cap backwards, and that any self-respecting gay man knows that look is over!
Take it away, Marky...!
