Just finished watching Disco: Spinning the Story DVD. Very good documentary, but one again its all about New York. The former DJ's of SCDDJA know better. LA was just as hot and influential as New York. We had all the major and minor label offices here in Hollywood. We had major promoters working the clubs. Big names such as Mark Paul Simon and Arnie Smith. We have the recording studios, were most of the songs were made. We also had the clubs. As good or better than any club in New York. State of the art bi-amp'ed Cerwin Vega sound systems. Just as many stars came to Studio One or Cabaret and Oil Can Harry's as The Saint or Studio 54. The dance crowd was much more demanding on what they wanted to hear, so the DJ's really had their work cut out. And what about the LA DJ's? They were just as good if not better then the New York DJ's. The DJ's broke many many songs. They all had their unique mixing style. We never hear about Mike Lewis or AJ Miller. I also remember a few New York DJ's trying to get jobs at LA clubs. They didn't last long. New York had its place in Disco history, but so did LA.
