Hello kellie_marie_fan, what is now happening through the 'www' is that the recording industry wants to protect thier product (who can blame them, downloads, mp3's, etc.). Online radio staions are now being required to pay 'royalties' to the artists just a 'land-line' radio stations do. Unfourtanley a few have ruined it for the many. If people PAID for the music vs. 'stealing and ripping' mp3s, the record labels would had looked at the 'on-line' stations as a free 'promo' tool. But since we have so many people complain on-line that they 'can't afford music' (then they should SELL THE COMPUTER, SAVE THE ISP'S FEES AND BUY THE MUSIC LEGALLY), but they can afford computers, monthly internet fees? So unfourtanly kelly_marie_fan, the free stations have dissapeared. Check with your ISP (AOL, Compuserve, Roadrunner, etc) and see if they feature an 'online radio' station. Alot of them are still having a disco/dance station on them. Hope this info helps, DJ Phil

Record compagnies are closing down internet radio! And how are they doing that? Thru a law decided by the UNITED STATES CONGRESS!
Another proof of the Americans thinking that they rule the world and can decide what must happen on a free medium as Internet, which is a borderless WORLDWIDE medium. Again American is trying to tell the rest of the world what to do!

Ummmm, Nonkel.....how to you go from the (tired) "no free music" quarrel to wishing us a crappy 4th of July? I happen to be on the download side of things in that boring argument, and I oppose the government's stance, but what does that have to do with our Independence Day?
Most of the folks I have met from the Low Countries would never think of saying such a thing....has something to do with the US performing a few services there back in '44 and '45.
Maybe something got lost in translation? Peut-etre, mon ami?

Excellent reply, remind me to cancell my trip to 'Belgium' as it would now seem a waste of my time and I am sure they wouldn't want any of my USA dollars!!

Sure like RCA/BMG (German), Universal/Vivendi (French), Sony/CBS (Japanese), EMI (British)... aren't the ones throwing tons of dollars to sway Congress and other goverments around the world.

That's completely uncalled for nonkel808. If you are a gentleman then you should apologize for that below-the-belt remark.

My sister and cousin survived two attacks ('93 & 2001) on their lives while working at the Wolrd Trade Center so you can bet that the 4th of July means even more to me and other Americans than ever before. Shame on you.

nonkel808 If that is the way you feel about America here are some suggestions: 1). If you live here, why not LEAVE. If you are a citizen I am sure our/my goverment will gladly help. 2). Avoid using any products of American origin/design/manufacture/containing US components. You will be saving thousands and you probably won't mind cleaning your clothes by beating them on a rock, walking (Henry Ford invented the car-Manufactur of, thus USA nade), use an 'Ice Box'(that darn USA invented refrigerator), stop watching TV (USA invented) and the Movies (Thomas Edison, yep USA made in New Jersey)and best yet ....THE COMPUTER (eniac-towards the end of the second world war...yep us darn people from the USA made that too)...if you don't use that product, we will never have to see you DOWN-GRADE this wonderful country. Remember nonkel808, LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT, but since you don't live here-why not never bother us again with your rantings, keep them in your own country along with yourself!!!

    WOW,
    that was not my intention.
I wanted to criticize on the internet radio restrictions, but I think I was a bit strong on words.
    For which I apologize.
I used the word ‘crappy’ to describe an unhappy feeling I had today to hear about the internet-radio restrictions, and I thought It would make you feel like that too.
I didn’t know that 4th of July meant that much to all of you. I guess it’s because I don’t have such a strong patriotic bound with my national holiday. (it’s just another free day off work for most of us)
Also I'm not an extremist Muslim or anti-American! and certainly not a second Fantomas!
I know that US has never let down other countries in need of help! Such as Europe (Belgium) during the World War. And I'm certainly not against Americans achievements in history, science, culture,... Of wish (disco)music is one of the greatest achievements. (and Britney spears is the worse )

But now I find it striking that record companies (even international) must ask American government to stop an “universal community” as the World Wide Web. As if it has become a given fact that in international situations the US should decide. Not just only politically but now also economically.
Its just that I’m afraid of all great decisions the US governments have taken on foreign policies these last two decades. I’m not the person to judge if those decisions were right or wrong, but I do feel that many times America has forgotten to ask other countries their opinions. Leaving parts of the world confused. It has created a world of terror that we now live in. And I know that you Americans can feel this current threat even more than me! It seems like the cold war is back, only with other enemies. And I’m afraid that one day another US decision may cause us all a lot of trouble!
As said, with great power comes great responsibility! But there should be reason in that responsibility! I whished that sometimes America opened up there eyes more often to the rest of the world, not the political or economical way, but on a more humanitarian and cultural way. And sometimes America(ns) should be reminded of that.

    Again, sorry for strong words,
I care enough about disco-music and this forum, and wouldn’t want to be banned from it.

    Peace,
    808

oh, did you know that a Belgian invented the funkiest instrument around. His name was Adolphe SAX. Guess what he invented

It looks like you caught a lot of members at a 'sensitive' time. (Too much happening this week.) Hopefully, all of us will accept your apology and move on. Our Goddess, Boodikka, even though she slapped you good  was willing to allow for a translation problem. Also, take a look at those record companies Bernie listed. They're not American.

For me, incident over. Now, maybe someone can help out poor 'kelly_marie_fan'.

Hey, I just thought of something. My cable company, COMCAST, has a long list of music channels playing everything from classical to club, 24/7. The company supplying the music (can't remember the name now) also has a website. Maybe the cable company in your area can help you out. I'll get the name and give it to you later.

    Good luck.

The music vendor for COMCAST is Music Choice. Their website is musicchoice.com.

I took a quick look... it might not be too helpful. It seems ALL their music is on TV, not the web.

    Sorry, took a shot.

I may be waaay off base here,

    But wasn't kelly_marie_fan from Australia?

I thought I read that somewhere.

    LIGHTBULB ON!!!!!!:

Hook up with Funky Dude for some tunes. He must have just about everything ever recorded, and all alphabetized by artist and labeled by year of release.

Forgive me, for pulling a Dolly Levi here, (as in "Hello - - - -"), but maybe some mp3's could be shared?

Then again, I could be wrong.

    Hi Bernie,
again, sorry for the strong words,
I guess I was a bit triggered by seeing that new controversial George Michael videoclip. (maybe a good topic for the gossip section)

I do tend not always to agree with foreign policies of US, but I would never go as far as personaly attacking any of these board members.
Its just an European thing to be aware of US Politics. And sometimes we differ on our opinions.
And I certainly didn't want to turn a DISCO forum into a POLITICAL forum. Let's just leave that to a political Newsgroup, shall we? and leave this topic to rest....

    Peace,

Not quite every artist. There are thousands more rare funk/disco I'm still yet to discover. My record collection is only about 200-250 and most of the really rare stuff I have, I've downloaded on MP3 from Napster and Audio Galaxy. I have probably over a 1000 disco/funk MP3s. She's emailed me and I've given her my username and password for Myplay.com , although for some reason the password sometimes doesn't work. Anyhow I'll do my best to introduce her to some really rare disco and funk tunes.

Anyhow it's great to have another Australian in the forums. In the past we had probably about 2 Aussies, one a non-regular and a regular early last year named "Red Lenny", I wonder what happened to him because I haven't heard from him in yonks, I even emailed him and got no reply. Oh well.

Australia mate! The land of many great funkateers!

My oppinion on the whole MP3 deal, basicly, the out of print non mainstream disco MP3's are stealing money from no one. If you arnt a record collector or a DJ i see no reason not ,for sharing MP3s of this great music. No one is loosing money over this. These artists are way gone (most of them anyway) and dont even have rights to their own music anymore as if anyone does for these. Also, its a good way to introduce people to the true sounds of classic disco. For instance, i don't think Black Sun is gonna lose any cash from circulating their 2 track LP around, where are they now and who were they to begin with? Just a kick ass couple of disco tracks by people who are long forgotten. Anyway, i think i made my point here. Peace Out All.
