    TS Monk "Candidate For Love"

I just heard this again the other day on a Dimitri CD and whilst my roomate loves that "So Good To Know" song best, I feel this is the stronger disco cut he dug up for After The Playboy Mansion. Can anyone shed a little light onto this really great uptempo cut? Still stands up today as a great morning music sort of tune.

Hi FrontPage22: 'Candidate For Love' was a massive tune in the UK back in the Jazz-Funk days, as was 'Bon Bon Vie', from the same album 'House Of Love' (Mirage 1981).

I always loved 'Candidate For Love' too; much better than 'Bon Bon Vie' IMO. T.S.Monk is Thelonius Monk's son isn't he? (the writer of 'Round Midnight', the classic jazz track).

Yeah...Great track from '81. what a fab year for music that was: Tom Browne's "Midnight Interlude." is in a similar vein to "Candidate".
Unfortunately, the two women singers who I think were sisters, died within two years of each other during the '80s

 Thanks for all the info. Does anyone know of an unedited CD version of this song? Perhaps a re-issue on some little label?

I've got a Kenny Carpenter/Studio 54 mixed CD that features 'Candidate For Love' pretty much in its entirety despite the fact that its mixed.

Yep he is. There is some Thelonious song named after its son's nickname ("Tootie"). And the toy car featured in the cover of Thelonious' "Monk's Music" LP (1957) is Tootie's.
After a couple of very good R&B albums, T.S. turned into straight jazz, and a few years ago he released his own tribute album to his father.
