Late 70S Disco Parties: Beginning and Ending Songs

Hey Guys! My 26th high school reunion got me thinking about those Friday/Saturday night house parties (as well as trips down to the local discos) and the first song they'd play to get the dancing started...I remember a lot of our dances got started with the album version of "I'm Your Boogie Man" by K.C. and the Sunshine band...The song would make a clean segue into "Keep It Coming Love." The last song we'd hear would usually be a ballad like: "Always & Forever" or "Reunited" or even "Reasons" by Earth, Wind and Fire. What do you all remember about the way things got started and the way the partying ended? :) Take Care...

    26th Mario?
Do you guys get together yearly?
My memories include all the songs you said, especially KC. Brainstorm was big in Connecticut. Parliament/Funkadelics/Bootsy was also popular, especially Tear The Roof Off The Sucka.
As the night ended and we needed to grind the girls, I always will remember A Love Of Your Own. Ahh, what a marvelous time

Good question "Mario". I remember those good ole backyard parties in the early 80's.... We were new wav'in it in the hood back then. I can remember the D.J. bump'in Kraftwerk,"More Fun to Compute" mixed with Numbers. Thompson Twins,"Lies Lies Lies".......and of course the all time backyard party starter, The Soul Sonic Force,"Planet Rock"!....that would get all the hoodies on the floor. Then later when everyone was hucked-up with a QT....the D.J would play Atlantic Starr,"Lets get Closer". Ahhh yeah! Lisa(sorry memories) A popular song to close the party out was, Don't Stop the Music.

Early in the evening, moody & suggestive classical music always worked well, blasted full volume. Ravel's "Bolero" was a favourite, before the film "10" trivialised the tune.

    :o

    I never used that, ever.
I've played almost everything else :)

For early starters I often played down to midtempo stuff like Willie Hutch, Patrice Rushen, Kleeer, Crown Heights Affair etc. That is music I liked but the crowd didn't know too well. It filled the purpose to rise the temperature and the atmosphere gradually.
