    Motown and The Rolling Stones

    *****

And then there's The Stones and Motown : :D

Using as reference the same TOP 40 songs from Motown's golden era ( 1962-1971) :

The Rolling Stones loved Motown and did four significant cover versions of Motown songs:

    SO ....

What four Motown songs did the Rolling Stones cover?

    ????

( It would seem that Motown wasn't as equally enamored with the Stones ... and so there are no Motown covers of their songs to name :( )

    I'll throw in a clue: :D

If I were a DJ at a radio station , I might ( oh so cleverly ) follow this song with The Staple Singers' " I'LL TAKE YOU THERE "

Remicks - The Stone DID cover Can I Get A Witness on their 1st LP - Titled Rolling Stones released in 1964 on UK London.

It's on side two. They do their own version in reply to this track on side one, called Now I've Got A Witness (Like Uncle Phil & Uncle Gene).

    They also covered Barrett Strongs's - Money, Marvin's - Hitchike & Stevie Wonder's - I Don't Know Why.

"My girl" could be No. 4. That's from the "Flowers" compilation. But in the "Out of our heads" LP (1965) they also do their own version of "Hitch hike", one of Marvin Gaye's early hits. So now we have five! :P

Maybe there are more? After all, during their first era the Stones went as far as to "replicate" the Motown sound in their own original "Under my thumb" (from the "Aftermath" LP).

Mick did a cover of Dancing In The Streets with David Bowie. Are you counting that? I would think not.

I am still using as a guide , the list of Motown's TOP 40 hits during Motown's peak years of 1962-1971. I imagine the specific covers mentioned were considered significant for some reason ... maybe they were released as singles (?) as opposed to cover versions that were only album cuts.... Maybe just an incomplete list.... No details given. :(

Sooo, still using that list ....the fourth Rolling Stone cover mentioned on it , was ....

    "HITCH HIKE"

......which was only a modest hit for Marvin Gaye in 1963 , peaking at #30.

Hey Remicks - another point worth mentioning is our differences in location!

Billboard Hits don't mean much to me I'm afraid, as here in the UK we have our own Top 100 and boy do they differ. ;)
