    Disco-soul-funk documentaries

Please post here titles of any doc on any of these genres. I kinda gave up about disco... I mean movies with archive footage, not fictional re-makes. Could be titles made direct-to-DVD, but please note if there was a theatrical release.

    I begin with these two:

-Standing at the shadows of Motown (Paul Justman, 2002)

-Only the strong survive (D.A. Pennebaker & Chris Hegedus, 2002) - about Stax soul

When I was in New York last month at the disco exhibit they had a documentary from 1976 or 1977 filmed by nyu students at The Gallery. I think the purpose was to film the entire night from start to finish. It began with the door people checking the guest/members list all the way to the janitors sweeping and cleaning up in the morning after the party. If I remember correctly the film lasts around 20 minutes. I do not know if there is any sound for it though because when I tried to turn the television monitor's volume up it did not work.

Interesting... I assume this thing had no title. Do you know if the exhibition has a website? How was it called, place, etc.

    Not to my knowledge

From what I was told by an older relative from New York such disco footage does exist but only from individual personal home movie collections or news programming footage etc...

I am guessing whether or not they would want to make it public is up to them

I have seen similar home movie footage filmed at the original Sound Factory back in the early 1990's. One of the patrons took their home video camera with them to film the DJ and the crowd dancing. The quality of the footage was not all that great though.

From what I remember the disco footage I saw at the disco exhibit seemed more professional than a home movie.
