Heatwave - Mind Blowing Decisions ?
Carl Douglas- Kung Fu Fighting
Recorded in the UK apparentley. He'd been studying in the UK
since 1964.
Heatwave never topped US R&B Chart
****
Ohh, ho ho hoooo !!
Yep indeed it was..... Carl Douglas' "KUNG FU FIGHTING" ........ that achieved the ultimate British invasion of the American soul chart!! ( and also made a lesser impact on the Billboard disco chart) . Carl was actully born in Jamaica , but had made the UK his home when he recorded this song he wrote .
(You could kickback while listening to this song .....but with guarded caution ....don't forget ..... "Those kicks were fast as lightning !" !! :D)
FOLLOW UP QUESTION : This song achieved something else unusual when it comes to topping the R&B chart ....I can't confirm that this is the ONLY song to do this .... but I can say that when it happened ... it was very rare ......
?????

Dropping off the top spot then returning again?
Kung Fu Fighting topped the Billboard R&B list for 1 week; (January 11, 1975); it did not return. It was previously #1 Pop for 2 weeks--is that the distinction? :-?
****
mmmmm..... yes , Marky .... pretty much :-? :D ....
The particular point being that "KUNG FU FIGHTING " topped the soul chart after it topped the TOP 100 ... As you know , it was very rare for a record to cross over in the reverse direction like that .... much less do so and go to No. 1. Typically , it was records crossing from the soul chart to the Hot 100 so the songs would first peak on the soul chart weeks earlier.
In fact , does anyone know of any other records that first topped the HOT 100 and then topped the R&B chart ??? :-? :-?
Or does "KUNG FU FIGHTING" have the distinction of being the only one?? 8) :D

i was never a big fan of this record, he was around way before this from around 1966 he recorded as carl douglas & big stampede one record -nobody cries/serving a sentence on life sends u.k english label collectors into a frenzy when one comes up for sale [very rarely] for the dancer b.side, one of the holy grail records, then strangely he recorded a record for buddah in the states in the early 70s 'marble and iron' my favourite carl douglas record an uptempo feel good dance record again very rare but if you happen to see an old dusty copy in a junk shop buy it on sight![]()
