    Best Sitcom Ever?

Maybe it's done before but because a few times in a man's life they create a sitcom that's irresistable, I wanna know your best 5 ever????

Mine (and they don't have to be American of course)

    1.Taxi
    2.Seinfeld
    3.Cheers
    4.Married With Children
    5.Fawlty Towers

No "Friends", I'm sorry folks, that one didn't work for me

    best sitcom ever?

matter of opinion, of course, but my opinion? the BBC's "Are You Being Served?" would take all 5 spots.

Most sitcoms don't appeal to me...However, I love Simpsons and the early 90s british show "Bottom" (with Mayall/Edmonson of "The Young Ones" fame)

I wish Boodi were posting again. I can't remember the exact title for a 70s sitcom about Robin Hood and she told me once before  Anyway, there's that one and these:

    2 All In The Family
    3 Sanford & Son
    4 Married With Children
5 Soap (esp. the first couple of seasons)

Here are my faves, complete with catchphrases in brackets (I do love a good catchphrase! )

    1.GOLDEN GIRLS ('get the cheesecake')
2.RHODA ('this is Carlton your doorman')
3.FAWLTY TOWERS ('dont mention the war')
4.FRASIER ('who's the next caller on the line please')
    5.RISING DAMP ('Oh Miss Jones')

I also agree with Paul that Soap started off brilliantly & then went downhill (I s'pose most sitcoms do though) so continuing:

    6.SOAP ('confused? you will be!')
7.'ALLO 'ALLO! ('I shall say zis only once' or 'bring the egg whisk & flying helmet' :o )
8.ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE ('I don't believe it')
    9.BLACKADDER ('I have a cunning plan')
    10.ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS ('more bolly,darling,sweedy' )

Hey SandraDee, when did Soap turn bad for you? For me it was the UFO thing. I loved Billy Crystal and the guy with the dummy but the alien thing got a little much.

Yeh paul, it was the UFO thing that did it for me, but I s'pose it was a very accurate send-up of soaps 'cos they always seem to go more outrageous as they go along don't they?

I liked Flip and Pryor too but I don't believe they fall into the sitcom category.
Martin was definitely funny and i forgot all about it. Just loved "brah man"(sp) and the hot babes doing guest appearances.
Super D, I remember the The Cosby Show you refer to. I even remember the opening theme. For the life of me I can't remember what the show was about.

Yeah I'm Hip "paul"....The Cosby show, Flip Wilson, and The Richard Pryor Show were more like varity shows than sitcoms.......so in the the place of these three great comediac Griots....I'll add
something more mainstream(even though these shows had no brotha's) :D

Gilligans Island(only the Black and white versions).
    The Flintstones(with Kazoo...although I think kazoo was a brotha' :D ).
    I Love Lucy.(then too Ricky was like a brotha' :D )

    excuse my profound saturninism :o

Too add to this thread (Do anyone remember when the networks would add the words "in color" at the bottom of the screen  Of course I was only a infant ..... but I do remember the re-runs

Great thread(Disco and Classic TV go hand and hand)

The Mary Tyler Moore Show, No. 1 by far

... Friends and Sex and the City round out my Top 3, but I can't choose one over the other

... then several others: Frasier, Kate & Allie, Seinfeld, Designing Women, Dynasty...

What do you mean Dynasty wasn't a comedy??! :D

Among sitcoms currently airing, I think the best is Scrubs
