Bobby Viteritti mix Track ID

Hey,
Im just listening to a recording of Bobby Viteritti playing at the Poop Deck in Florida from November 1977 and was just wondering could anybody ID a track for me from the mix. Its a female vocal disco record with a chorus singing:

hold on,
here we go,
I got a feeling that its gonna grow,
up to the top of the world,

here i am,

I gotta feeling that were goin far,
up to the top of the world

Any Ideas?

I had a feeling it was her alright. Those tapes are excellent but Ive noticed with Viteritti that he plays a load of superb songs one after another then plays the odd annoying record here and there such as Charo - Dance a little bit closer and such which for me just kills it a little.

Still though hes the best mixer Ive ever heard(Only from tapes though) along with Jim Burgess and its hearing djs like that make me want to achieve that level of excellence when it comes to mixing live drummer records. Its a shame hes not still DJing today.

I'm listening right now to something very jazzy!!! Lotsa interesting stuff there and it's FREEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! :D :D :D

Viteritti used to fascinate us in SF with his obscure records (ususally played in the famous morning sessions)...I woulda loved to have been in his house when he got his records from the record pool and listened and decided what he could play. He always dug deeper and uncovered more gems and seemingly oddball stuff that others discarded but that he felt might work. Tracks from prog rockers like Alan Parsons Project ("The Gold Bug" for example) OR smooth jazzsters like Bob James ("Sign Of The Times") and other sources that no one else played---but he could work them into a set and get all the tongues waggin' "What was THAT???" :-?

I guess something might not work--on occasion--but his adventurousness always earned him points in my book.

I also would love to hear him play once more!!!

(sigh)

Oh, Oh CHARO just came on!!!! :oops: :oops: :oops: :oops: I draw the line there!!! Some people like this but it's CONGEALED CHEESE WHIZ ON A STICK if ya ask me!!! :P :P

Charo, Well I guess that Bobby wanted to play something Tropical since he was in Florida. The 4 songs that follow Charo are all very tropical. I can feel the trade winds......

I haven't heard the tape yet, but it could be Champ's Boys Orchestra version (Vogue 1976) it has "Tubular Bells" of the B side..

Whats the track at 22 minutes on tape 1 of the Poop Deck tapes? Its a lush disco instrumental with subtle female chants over the strings

As for Viteritti hes an amazing DJ technically and when listening to his tapes, I find myself listening to certain mixes repeatedly, wondering just how the hell did he manage that! The morning music mix off the 5am ago site is superb aswell, I love the way he smoothly blends into loves theme from rotation.

With regards to some of the stuff he plays, I tend to like the majority of the stuff Id hear on tapes by Roy Thode/Bobby Viteritti/ Jim Burgess etc. but given that Larry Levan and Nicky Siano would be my favourite djs there would be the odd track I just wouldnt get, but you had to be there I suppose... :cry:

btw Who actually won Billboard national DJ of the year in 1979? In the Bobby Viteritti interviews and articles it says he did, but there is a photo off the VJS site saying Jim Burgess did

I've been listening to downloads from that site--have ya heard the Tom Moulton interview? I have to try and finish it today. Also, I very much enjoyed the sample of one of his legendary tapes for the Sandpiper. (I gotta listen again and write titles down.)

I've been told that Bobby Viteritti was the Billboard DJ of the year for both 1979 and 1980.

I looked back at Billboard charts for the era of the first tape--November, 1977 and Charo's record was a new release at that time - so sometimes it's just the DJ playing what's new as opposed to what he loves. (Maybe Bobby does love Charo???-- but I never heard him play her any other time!!!) I loved hearing Sister Sledge's "Love Don't You Go Through No Changes On Me" and Fantastic Four's "Got To Have Your Love" !!!! Later it gets hot with Santa Esmeralda and CJ& Co. Also, notice the palate-cleansing jazzy instrumental every few songs that work to change the tone and transition into a different sound...didn't know what some were...but was amazed that BV was playing this stuff back in 1977!!!

I didn't write down titles....but I do think the "Land of Make Believe" disco track was as the previous poster said--The Champs Boys Orchestra. I don't have this--only seen it listed various places.

so the song you need is between "Quiet Village" by the Ritchie Family and "Run To Me" by Kelly Marie...and I don't know what it is!!! :oops:

What's the first song...that "It's so hot, I'm burning up"???? I should know it...is it part of Le Pamplemousse?

That track from the poop deck tapes you are after is Peter Brown - Burnin love breakdown. Its an excellent record.

I tell you though there are few djs like this around anymore and most of the people who are claiming to be from this era havent made anything near as significant a contribution to the music but want twice as much credit :roll:

Tis a shame Bobby V retired so early but I can imagine mixing records as well as he did with that level of consistency would take a lot out of you over the course of a night and it would be tough to enjoy yourself at the same time I can imagine

It's interesting to note that Bobby V is doing mostly segues and short blends on the Poopdeck tapes (just like everyone else was doing at the time?), some of them with fairly radical tempo shifts. Nothing wrong with that, as it tended to act like a kick up the ass, if a crowd was a little lacklustre. Some of his ideas are interesting at times.
It's a shame that current DJs don't get to practice doing segues 'cos they go straight to beat mixing. IMO, having to do segues teaches someone to listen to the musical content of records as well as take notice of the BPMs. When chopping records together it is damned difficult to make the 'mix' sound musical and not end up with a series of jarring transitions.

These mixes are great!!!! Love "Fire Island Disco Breakfast" from 1975--it's exactly what's in the Top 40 of the Billboard charts at the end of 1975. And the Roy Thode "Fire Island Tea Dance" from 1977 is primo...starts mid-tempo and then get reeeeeeeeeeal SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW--but in a good way. :D Although at the very end, he plays Claudja Barry's wonderful "Love For The Sake Of Love" sped up so she sounds like Minnie Riperton or Deniece Williams or just plain weird.

I haven't been disappointed by any of the ones I've downloaded yet!!! :D :D :D

This is a brilliant record. I discovered it on the gluck mix back in January and I tracked down a copy within a week or so and played it at the start of february at the peak of the night after a derrick carter record and the place erupted.

Those tapes have been a big influence in so far as Ive gotten into a lot of the early hi nrg stuff like venus dodson, carol jiani, katmandu etc. off the back of them

Does anybody know the names of the first 2 tracks off the Bobby V Trocadero 1979 mix?

the first one sounds a bit like Giorgio Moroder - I wanna rock you, except with a female vocal going 'Harmony....' over the top. The second one has another female vocal(a bit more brash though!) going 'im getting high on your love, baby im in love'. Theyre both brilliant records!
