bobby caldwell - what you wont do for love
From the beginning of time, what, in your mind has been the best blue eyed soul track to hit the dance charts? (Wherever!)
bobby caldwell - what you wont do for love
I did think of Bobby Caldwell...but figured it was more of a ballad... soooooooooooooo... what about?:
I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) by Hall & Oates :P
Lowdown - Boz Scaggs :P
Georgy Porgy - Toto w/ Cheryl Lynn :P
I thought just about everybody would have chosen Wild Cherry's "Play that Funky Music"! My choices would float between Lisa Stansfield's "All Around the World" or George Michael's "I Want Your Sex"
All good choices so far.
I have a leftfielder for y'all to consider, that could have so easily been a Soul single.
England Dan & John Ford Coley - Love Is The Answer
Pure Gospel/Soul sung by two guys whose names suggested Country&Western to me. Just look at the lyrics too.
Love Is The Answer (Todd Rundgren)
Name your price
A ticket to paradise
I can't stay here any more
And I've looked high and low
I've been from shore, to shore, to shore
If there's a short cut I'd have found it
But there is no easy way around it
Light of the world, shine on me
Love is the answer
Shine on us all
Set us free
Love is the answer
Who knows why
Someday we all must die
We're all homeless boys and girls
And we are never heard
It's such a lonely, lonely, lonely world
People turn their heads
And walk on by
Tell me is it worth just another try
Light of the world, shine on me
Love is the answer
Shine on us all
Set us free
Love is the answer
Tell me, are we alive
Or just a dying planet
(What are the chances)
Ask the man in your heart
For the answer
And when you feel afraid
(Love one another)
When you've lost your way
(Love one another)
And when you're all alone
(Love one another)
And when you're far from home
(Love one another)
And when you're down and out
(Love one another)
And when your hopes run out
(Love one another)
And when you need a friend
(Love one another)
And when you're near the end
(Love)
(We've got to love)
(We've got to love one another)
Light of the world, shine on me
Love is the answer
Shine on us all
Set us free
Love is the answer
Light of the world, shine on me
Love is the answer
Shine on us all
Set us free
Love is the answer...
"Let's Go 'Round Again" AWB (1980)
Nice one Quinny. 'Love is the answer' is one of my fave tracks.
Apparently its one Steve Wright's as well !!!
What about;
Sweet Freedom - Michael McDaonald
Steve Winwood - Roll with it.
LOVE IS THE ANSWER IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAV TRACKS ALONG WITH DARYL HALL ' STOP LOVING ME, STOP LOVING YOU'.
I'm assuming, best "blue eyes" is best y-t's :DOriginally Written by Davicillo
I have a couple of baaad white boys from the motor city.![]()
Creative Source, "Who is He and What is He to You".
Dennis Coffee and the Detroit City Band, "Scorpio".

-Wham: Everything she wants
-Yello: The rhythm divine
And since we are talking about blue eyes here: the whole catalogue of Mister Frank Sinatra, the greatest of all times. And that's a fact![]()
Miss Sun - Boz Scaggs also!!
and what about some Dusty Springfield?: Son of a Preacher Man--too slow for disco dancing...but what a beauty!!! :D :D :D
Dusty's disco would include:
That's The Kind Of Love I've Got For You &
Baby Blue-- not her at her most soulful...but then later there was my alltime fave: In Private produced and written by the Pet Shop Boys!!! :D :D :D
OK, I'm confused. What member of this five-member outfit contributes the "blue eyes"? I always thought it was three 'sisters' and two 'brothers' --- all brown-eyed babies.Originally Written by Super D
My all time fave: AWB - "Let's Go 'Round Again". And again, and again, and again, and... :) (Keefe, thanks for the info on that alternate mix way back when. I did get my hands on it. :D )
Early fave: Babe Ruth - "Elusive". And now that I think of it, I've never seen a pic of Babe Ruth. Do they fit the bill?

OOOOOPs! ya' got me :o :o what timming, I just received my silver membership

I stand corrected

I recently saw a Creative Source LP and think I saw Skip Scarborough's name as being part of that group (well arranger/composer, I guess). I know I shoulda grabbed it--but it was kinda pricey for cheap ole me.
OK, around $15 bucks... yeah, chump change to the E-bay crowd!!!! :P
from AMG:
"The Migration album followed later in 1974, but failed to spawn anything major despite Skip Scarborough's exquisite vocal arrangements. Creative Source's other significant singles were "You Can't Hide Love" (the Earth, Wind & Fire ditty), "You're Too Good to Be True," and "I Just Can't See Myself Without You."
Just another track to think about.
Domenic Troiano - We All Need Love
What a superb record! It has such an incredibly uplifting feel to it and the synth solo is to die for. Classy, classy Disco music that hit the groove without being cheesy or kitsch. Used to play it BIG TIME and always went down well.
Well I like just about everything everyone has mentioned here. I'll add my current favorite Kokomo who I did a post on a month ago.
2 blue-eyed faves of mine:
I Just Wanna Stop - Gino Vanelli
Is It You? - Lee Ritenour
Not disco but pure class. 8)
'Strange Kind of Love' by Love & Money, and 'Labour Of Love' by Hue & Cry from the late 80s were also excellent white soul records.
One of my all time favorites: TEENA MARIE
I've been lovin' her since 1978. Talk about a white girl w/SOUL! And she does it ALL...writes the music, the lyrics, plays most of the instruments, sings, and produces! Although most of her songs are funk/r&b, I think a few of her songs may have been on the dance charts over the years, like the ones mentioned on this site - Behind the Groove and Square Biz.
next time you're in a used record store, go to the bargain bins and pick up a copy of Hall's solo album "3 Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine." The closing track, "What's Gonna Happen To Us?" will knock your socks off. It's hypnotic, percussive, has sitar and Hall's vocal is surrounded in echo. My favorite track Hall's ever been involved in.
Holding back the years by Simple Red deserves a second mention. From their first album also I like "money s too tight to mention" but my fav. is Jericho
What about "China girl"by David Bowie? And the group "Electribe 101".("Talking with my self","Tell me when the fever ending")
Don't know if all charted, but oh well...
HALL & OATES - Private eyes
BOZ SCAGGS - Lowdown
SIMPLY RED - More; Jericho; Stars
GEORGE MICHAEL - One more try
THE BLOW MONKEYS - Digging your scene
BRYAN FERRY - Slave to love; I put my spell on you
MATT BIANCO - Yeh-yeh
SWING OUT SISTER - Breakout
FRANCE GALL - Ella è lá
