No doubt, it is a great song. We used to love that song especially it's driving beat.
With so many great disco songs, it's hard to argue for just one though.
I think it's Spank by Jimmy 'Bo' Horne.Great
lyrics and instumentals. What do y'all think?
Disco will never die!!

Find them and destroy them!
This is a great question; One that will stir a lot of debate, however, I have to go with the one record that was fantastic then and is still just as good today. My pick for greatest disco record of all time, 'Disco nights' by GQ. This song is uplifting, the music is fantastic and the vocals are great.
On top of that, it has never fallen into the commercial crap category other songs have fallen into considering its immense popularity and play. I still play this record at most every party or club I spin at.
I believe it will stand the test of time even though it was a disco record. By the way, I gave strong consideration to 'Love is the message' by MFSB for all the same reasons I gave for 'Disco nights'. The break in 'Love is the message' has easily withstood the test of time and has flowed just as nicely with the '80's club sound and House music of today. Hard to choose between the two, but I had to go with one so 'Disco nights' it is. Curious to hear your comments.
Easy,

Sammy,
Interesting you chose GQ's "Disco Nights." While I love this song, I do admit to not playing it often. Perhaps I should revisit it. Thanks.

All I'll say is that when you do revisit it, it'll probably end up in your regular play crate. Enjoy listening to it again.

I like "Spank" but, personally I prefer "YOU GET ME HOT". To me this is one of the best disco-funk songs of all-times.
Peace.
P.S. I cant say just one "best" record. Among thousends of my records, my faves use to be changed frequently.
SENHORES DO GROOVE - BRAZIL
For me the best disco cut ever for what i know in disco so far would be:
Mainline - BLACK IVORY (1979)
I do also love Spank and Disco night , but dont know the track mentioned by BLAXMAN , but again its hard to choose...RU
Hi, RU.
"YOU GET ME HOT" is from JIMMY "BO" HORNE 1979 album, for some reason I guess this track dont charted in US. I think MARKY (The Chartman)could help us on that issue.
In Brazil this song was a hit.
Peace.
P.S.
I love "Mainline" by Black Ivory, yes Sir!

The best DISCO song ever? A tough question, for sure. My pic: BAD LUCK, by HAROLD MELVIN & THE BLUE NOTES!
zeca azevedo, the lucky one
It's a very difficult choice to pick one disco song.
Jimmy "Bo" Horne and "Spank? Well, it's got to be right up there, hasn't it? I really would be tempted with that one myself..
And as for GQ? One of my FAVOURITE bands , and I think "Disco Nights" is one of their best disco records - I love the sophisticated feel to it - that feeling of long summer nights! Do you know what I mean?
GQ - consistent Good Quality!!
My choice? And like everybody else's, it changes from week to week, but this one is never very far from my turntable... T-CONNECTION with "Do What You Wanna Do". Great bass lines, and magic percussion breaks, and - they just sound like they know how to have a good time!! And, it was from that magical year for me - 1977
If it moves - funk it!!
Cool ,i was hesitating between Do what you wanna do - T-CONNECTION and Mainline - BLACK IVORY , but then again its hard to choose, and im sure others will come out with great trax....RU
Best disco song?? Too many for me to list, but here are some that do things to me that many other disco songs cannot:
"Dance (Disco Heat)" by Sylvester (1978)
"Night Rider" by Venus Dobson (1979)
"True Love Is My Destiny" by James Wells (1978)
"Do Or Die/Pride" by Grace Jones (1978)
"Feed The Flame" by Lorraine Johnson (1978)
"Sunny" by Yambu (1975)
"Spring Rain" by Silvetti (1977)
"Risky Changes" by Bionic Boogie (1978)
"Spring Affair" by Donna Summer (1976)
"Feel The Need In Me" by Detroit Emeralds (1972)
"I'll Be Holding On" by Al Downing (1974)
"Peanut Vendor/Frenesi/Brazil" by Ritchie Family (1975)
"When The Fuel Runs Out" by Executive Suite (1973)
"Every Beat Of My Heart" by Crown Heights Affair (1975)
"MacArthur Park Suite" by Donna Summer (1978)
"Love Disco Style" by Erotic Drum Band (1978)
There are many others; these are just the ones that came to me easily.

I shoulda mentioned, RU, that when I was out clubbing in the early Eighties, BLACK IVORY and Mainline gained a cult status amongst London's clubbers - one of those "rare grooves" - and was enormously popular in the underground scene. I think it is also a great record. Wasn't it, I believe, one of the first outings for Leroy Burgess? Happily I found the LP in a 2nd hand record shop many years ago, and have played it to death ever since. On 2002-07-01 20:53, ruoffended wrote:

Good choice!!

For me, being a huge fan of the post disco era (1979-1983), I would say
Invisible man's band - All night thing
was amoung my fav.
Hey Robbie - your list makes me wanna go and make a CD this weekend of all of the above (lone exception, no-voice Venus D)....can never have too much Donna, Syl or Ritchie Family! thanks for stirring up the memories! On 2002-07-01 21:06, Robbie wrote:

Hi Blax and guys....Here in the NYCity area, "Spank" was just a nominal chartmaker and not very realized by most Club DJs...especially in the high energy clubs but it did have its share of fans on Black music stations and I found it passable...I don't ever remember "You Got Me Hot" nor do I think it even charted in the States...his other honorable mentions here were "Dance Across The Floor" and "Get Happy," if my aging gray matter still serves me correctly! On 2002-07-01 14:03, Blaxman wrote:

But none of them were monsters by any stretch....
"Mainline" by Black Ivory was bigger than all of them and yet never had the "classic" impact that it truly deserved.

Hi Danceman,
Thanks a lot for the information.
I'm totally amazed!! How could "You Get Me Hot" be ignored!! I'm not judging other people preferences, just asking - What did happen at that time? Why that song was not a hit? - That song is the best Jimmy Bo Horne's song ever (IMHO). FUNKY indeed!!
Any clue?
Peace
SENHORES DO GROOVE - BRAZIL
My only guess is that it was released in 1979 - the best of times and also the worst of times....the best year of disco releases and also the saddest year in terms of what transpired in the record industry that Fall....TK/Sunshine Records was spiraling downhill in 1979, unfortunately, and Jimmy probably got lost in the shuffle....he wasn't alone as lots of songs joined it, believe me.....maybe if someone would give him a listen now....who knows? btw...where is Jimmy these days?On 2002-10-10 21:48, Blaxman wrote:

I am sorry now that I never heard "HOT"...it sounds like something that I woulda liked.

DanceMan--
Thanks for your nice words about my list. I'll have to disagree with you on Venus Dobson, though. Although I've never heard any of her other material, "Night Rider" always can lift me up.

Blax,
"You Get Me Hot" by Jimmy "Bo" Horne peaked at #18 on 8/25/79 on the Billboard R&B chart and at #101 on the Pop chart; I don't see any entry on the Disco chart.
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
hehe, it's very hard...
one of my favourite is shalamar " a night to remember". then there is chic "sao paulo".
then ollie & jerry "Breakin'...There's No Stoppin Us". then... I stop here.
Uptown Girl - Billy Joel (sorry about that; thought I'd inject a bit of irony at this point!)
...ya gotta beat the street......
I prefer something like...
1-Shalamar/"Take That to the Bank"/1977
2-Bee Gees/"Love So Right"/1977(live)
3-Gino Soccio/"Dancer"/1979
4-KC&The Sunshine Band/"Do You Wanna Go Party"/1979
5-The Chi-Lites&Eugene Record/"Try my Side(Of Love)"/early 80's
.
Impossible to find a song which is the best for everyone!!! As i think that doesn't exist "the best disco song"...but in this period i'm listening to "Got To Find A Disco" by "Love Exchange" every day!!! It's an uptempo masterpiece with all the right ingredients: breaks, percussions, strong vocals etc. Try to listen to...it's a G. Carmichael producion released in 1978 on Dance Disk ( a Red Greg sub label).
Well, I've avoided this topic for a long time...BUT my pick is....(for the twelfth time)...
"This Will Be A Night To Remember" by Eddie Holman on Salsoul, mixed by Tom Moulton, 1977.
This was my #1 record this time around.
It gives me a rush to hear it. Everytime. Honest.
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
