    Chameleon La Pregunta

I have a copy of this record - on the GNP (Gene Norman Presents) Crescendo label - looks like it was released in 1979. I am interested in knowing more about the band, who wrote it, how big a hit it was etc. The only thing I can find is that Dmitri from Paris used it in a mix CD he released. Interesting set as I did one pretty simialr incorporating this record. Anyway, does anyone know anything about the history of this track/band ?

    Cheers!

Chameleon fiorst appeared on Herbie Hancock's Headhunters LP and was one of the staple early Jazz Funk tracks. His version was muuuuuch slower (sub 100 BPM?) and a really, really heavy slab of JF.

The discofied version by La Pregunta did well for me, because of its latin feel and the fact that the original was soooo well known among a certain crowd.

Loved the record, but hated the fact that my copy was as distorted as hell and muffled. Sort of spoilt the overall effect.

Funnily enough, I was thinking of starting a topic about La Pregunta as well, but you beat me to it! :D

The only other track I know by the group is the equally fantastic "Shangri-La". According to this current auction on eBay, it was produced by Doug King and John Davis (it definitely sounds like a John Davis production).

I also see there is a copy of "Chamelon" on auction on eBay as well:

I presume that other than these two 12"s, no LP or other singles were ever released by La Pregunta?

Thanks guys for the info. It's certainly a good track, one that has a 'rarity' value. Agreed it does not play very well...the 45rpm side is better than the 33rpm side for some strange reason.....

    Back to the decks.

Yes, I have "You're So Right for Me", nice, bouncy tune, with an interesting break in it. It's pressed using a funny multi-colured vinyl which does not wear well so I don't play it that often to preserve it!
