How many disco acts can you think of have enough of a catalogue to create a top 10 from?
Not many. :( .... In fact , not many have a total of ten songs , period ...
Standing out far above the rest has to be Donna Summer with her amazing list of tunes ....
I had a hard time narrowing it down to just ten .... had to leave out several that rank right up there too .....but anyway , I gave it shot .....
...and ranked in order ........
...with "COULD IT BE MAGIC " being my all-time , no-doubt , at-the-top , favorite .....
....Here is my :
.... Top 10 Donna Summer Songs: ....
... 1) Could It Be Magic
... 2) Try Me , I Know We Can Make It
... 3) MacArthur Park
... 4) Last Dance
... 5) Love To Love You Baby
... 6) I Feel Love
... 7) Love Is A Healer
... 8) This Time I Know Its For Real
... 9) Queen for A Day
.. 10) Our Love / Lucky
so what do you think ? :P ................ I'd be curous as to how your own DS Top 10 would compare .....?? :-? :D

No, plzzzzzzzzz, not them  If they play "Come on Eileen" in a venue that I am visiting I'll burn down the Disco and hang the DJ  One of the worst so-called-uplifting-partysongs-ever! Replace it by Joe Dolce, so we can have a laugh!Originally Written by nrgbeat

I was just watching TV and saw an advertisement for Donna's summer tour. She was looking and sounding better than EVER. Then it occured to me how many times I've heard Donna's hits recycled and sampled recently (especially "Hot Stuff", "Bad Girls" and "Love to Love You Baby" on "Will and Grace" of all places) I don't think ANY dance music artist has done as many classic songs, especially since she co-wrote so many of them. Picking favorite songs from an artist who's done so many great ones would be impossible, so I'd prefer to name a few great ones that I see missing from most other lists, like "The Only One", "Wasted", "Can't We Just Sit Down(And Talk it Over?)", "Back in Love Again", "Need A Man Blues", "With Your Love(from "Thank God It's Friday') and "Another Place and Time". And speaking of Donna, I recently became aware that there's an entire album she did with Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte that I assume was never released here in the US called, if I'm not mistaken, "I'm a Rainbow." I saw it in a used music store but couldn't make up my mind if I wanted it at that time, figuring I'd come back in a couple weeks after I'd made my decision and it would still be there. Well, you can guess the rest: I came back in a couple weeks and it was gone...
My lot are;
1. I FEEL LOVE (DANNY HOWELLS MIX)
2. RUMOUR HAS IT
3. CARRY ON
4. STATE OF INDEPENDENCE
5. HEAVEN KNOWS
6. COULD IT BE MAGIC
7. I LOVE YOU
8. ALL SYSTEMS GO (12" MIX)
9. LOVE'S ABOUT TO CHANGE MY HAERT
10. OUR LOVE
Here we go -
1) COULD IT BE MAGIC
2) ON THE RADIO
3) MACARTHUR PARK
4) I FEEL LOVE
5) STATE OF INDEPENDENCE
6) THIS TIME I KNOW IT`S FOR REAL
7) ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
8) MELODY OF LOVE
9) WORK THAT MAGIC
10) LOVE TA LOVE YOU BABY
*****
These are some nice lists ! :D
I'm noticing one song ( and only one ) making every list : COULD IT BE MAGIC :D 8) :D 8)
This suggests something ..... a possible mega hit for her ..for some reason bypassed..... odd this song as done by her was not a hit beyond the dance floors... .... was it released as a single?
Surprisingly "SHE WORKS HARD FOR THE MONEY " has yet to be mentioned ...????.....
I'lll wait and if enough lists apppear I'll do the Marky thing and assign points and come up with this group's compilation TOP 10. :D
Speaking of you Marky ..... you disappoint me this time ... :( .... ..I know you are busy with your compilations ..but your assignment here was to narrow it down to just your TOP 10 !! That is where the challenge is . Not to jest rattle off lots of Donna Suimmer songs that you like ... :P ..... Here's the situation : .....You're going on a deserted island . Forever.....well, Ok .. make it for seven years .... What you take is all you'll ever have ....You get to take ten. Ten only ...that's all there's room for .... so, what 10 are they ???...:-? 8)... (by the way it took me two weeks  to decide my finalized list  :P  and I'm still tempted to switch a couple of rankings )
Plus there's the songs just bubbling under that I wish I could squeeze into my suitcase :
She Works Hard
State of Independence
Enough Is Enough
Fairy Tale High
Wasted
On The Radio
Dim All The Lights
I Love You
And now these songs I'd need to review/ get to know before casting away:
WORK THAT MAGIC
ALL SYSTEMS GO
BACK IN LOVE AGAIN
NEED A MAN BLUES
NOW I NEED YOU
GRAND ILLUSION
CORNERS OF YOUR MIND
:D :D :D
..... great lists ! Give it a try ..... its not so easy !!!

my choice is :
70s
- love to love you (from the 4th mn) with the bassline alone
- spring affair (album version)
- bad girl
- i feel love (+ disconet remix)
- arrested
- macarthur park
- rumour has it
- no more tears
i love her voice in Paul Jabara s "never loose your sense of humour" and "shut up"
80s
she works hard for the money is very very good too (the hot tracks remix with the beginning keyboards in the middle of the song in a nice collage). i remember the video where u see her running from her job to home passing by shops etc..
Remicks: I'm sorry to inform you that you've chosen the wrong guy to get any emotion outta football (soccer). Couldn't give a rat's ass if Le Tissier was or wasn't in a football museum. As for Moran, who's he? Terry Paine might be a different proposition.Originally Written by remicks
And now for our Donna and a list from me........
The only record of her's that I can say I really liked, without reservation, was BAD GIRLS. I quite enjoyed Love To Love You Baby and I Feel Love for about five minutes and the guitar solo in Hot Stuff was the best part of that record and something I used to mix in and out of. I loved the Full Monty scene where they dance/practice to it in the Dole office.
My wife's favourite seems to be State Of Independance, nowadays.
As a working DJ, I played a fair few of her records, at different times, but only to please other people and could never work out why she was soooooooo popular. I wasn't alone in my neck of the woods in having her stuff down as being a little too kitsch.![]()
Don't think we missed much.
Marky: Glad you didn't disappoint. 8)

----- Thank you Quinny :D ...you're untied and free to go now ....
Sheesh I hope you and efunk didn't hurt yourselves too much !!![]()
So you're on the record with these "favs" :
1) BAD GIRLS
2) LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY
3) I FEEL LOVE
4) HOT STUFF
5) STATE OF INDEPENDANCE :D .... by proxy
.....funny .... the very reason you don't care for Donna Summer in general .... is the same reason I don't care for her one song by her , you like the most .....BAD GIRLS ...... just toooo kitsch !....... "toot toot , beep beep" :P .....
*****
Can't quite see what's kitsch about Bad Girls. Most guys I know loved 'em.![]()
Bad Girls may be kitsch with a small k, most of the rest of her stuff is raving KITSCH. There IS a difference and the reason I liked that track was absolutely to do with the fact that it was a departure from what had gone for at least two years before. At last, here was a record by her that had some BALLS.
Maybe I don't know my "KITSCH" ....but to me, "kitsch" would be stuff like Charo singing "The Theme from the 'Love Boat'"--NOT the wonderful recordings of HRH Miss Donna Summer!!!!!!! :P :P :P :P :P
What's the difference between kitsch and camp?
Kitsch: something that appeals to popular or lowbrow taste and is often of poor quality
Encyclopaedia Brittanica
Or trashy, worthless..... blah de blah.
Enjoy
My top songs by Donna are:
1) Could it be Magic
2) Bad Girls
3) Woman (Underrated song from "She works hard for the money" album)
4) Come with me
5) Mac Arthur Park
6) Enough is Enough
7) Last Dance
8) I Love You
9) On the radio
10) Love to love you baby

"this time i know"-a great comeback record
and a Donna ballad off of
"works Hard" "love has a
mind of it's own" that
