    Marlena Shaw's "New Beginnings"

I've recently re-discovered "Sweet Beginnings" from Marlena Shaw in a best-of cd....WHAT AN AMAZING, CLASSY DISCO PRODUCTION!! Great vocals, percussion, energy (sounds like something Sharon Redd/Linda Clifford would've sung)... Anyhoo..was it played in clubs? was there an extended 12"??(it is rather short, 4 minutes or so). Besides "Touch Me in the Morning" and "Love Dancin", anything else I should be on the lookout for from Marlena?

    Hi SRG!-yes,there is-"It's
    better than walking out"
was a club hit on Bluenote
    in 76(I think)There was a
promo only 12" that extended it for a few minutes, also."Sweet beginnings" was played
    along with "pictures and
memories' when it was released, but I always thought "Sweet beginnings' would have been more succesful with a 12" mix-
    but,even as is,I still play
    this today-great song!

Well, you guys beat me to it but what the heck :D

Ahhh, sweet and lovable Marlena, the 1976 LP “Just a matter of time” (Blue Note BN-LA606-G) with many beautiful ballads like “This time I’ll be sweeter” and “Sing to me” is just a treat, “It’s better than walking out “ off this LP was a club hit listed in Disc-o-la Fortune 500 Discotheque songs of the 70’s at #196, “Love has gone away” is another Disco cut off this LP, “Sweet Beginnings” also features another Disco cut, “Pictures and Memories” although I don’t remember if any of them was released on 12” or played in clubs, this album’s biggest hit was the combo of “Yu-Ma” segueing into “Go away little boy” which used to be all over the urban radio waves… “do you think you can get a job by Thursday ?... then you might as well stay”

Try mixing Marlena's exquisite "Sweet Beginnings" into Astrud Gilberto's equally scintillating Vince Montana production "All Of Me", from Astrud's criminally neglected 1977 "That Girl from Ipanema" disco album. Smooth.
