.....ahem :-? ...................................DONNA SUMMER ?????? ........GLORIA GAYNOR ?? ...........
*****
Yesterday, Oprah showed footage of her Legends Luncheon wherein she brought together the African American women who had inspired her and the young crop who may take their places in the future. The "mothers" & the "daughters" as she called them.
There was a ball also...but at the luncheon held in Oprah's backyard on her Santa Barbara estate...only the women could attend...no spouses, no "handlers"...
A massive photo shoot took place..which I would presume will appear in O magazine at some point in the future...
As a DIVA LOVER...I woulda loved to have been a fly on a bottle of Chardonay in that backyard!!!
Oprah quote:
"These are women who, when I was growing up, made a difference for me," Winfrey told reporters, who weren't allowed inside the event. "The first time I saw Diana Ross and the Supremes on the Ed Sullivan Show, it changed my life."
Among the Divas I spotted in the footage:
Miss Ross, (wonder if Mary Wilson & Cindy Birdsong got an invite?), :P Tina Turner, Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Natalie Cole, Roberta Flack, Valerie Simpson
Singer/Actresses: Diahann Carroll, Della Reese
Actresses: Cicely Tyson, Ruby Dee, Alfre Woodard, Halle Berry, Angela Bassett, Pam Grier (I keep findin' more names on google!!!)
Poet/Author: Maya Angelou
Civil Rights Legend: Coretta Scott King
Young Uns: Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Alicia Keyes, Ashanti, Tyra Banks, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott
Just about everyone 'cept Whitney Houston & Lil' Kim!!!!! :P
(Oh, and Lena Horne & Aretha (probably wouldn't fly...she took her bus to the Daytime Emmys!!!)
They showed Miss Ross in conversation with Tina Turner on a bench outdoors...and Miss Ross seated next to Dionne Warwick in the photo shoot. :D
Can't wait to see the photo to find out if others like Patti Austin, Deniece Williams, Stephanie Mills & Randy Crawford got an invite to O's soiree'!!!????

I don't know.....she's certainly been on Oprah's show.....I can't find a complete guest list...I keep gettin' dribs & drabs of names in all my searches.  :P :-?
Not to get off topic, but are she and Steadman over?
*****
Donna Summer's been linked with Steadman ?? !!!!
Well then , no wonder she wasn't invited !!!!
*****
I think that's all done and dusted y'know nrgbeat. She's been 'linked' with another guy.Originally Written by nrgbeat
BTW? Were any white women invited?  It's sad that the spouses weren't allowed in too.
Did she give any cars away?
Praise the god, that is Oprah Winfrey! She has spoken.![]()
I meant Oprah not Donna Summer.Originally Written by nrgbeat
No white women or spouses were allowed at the LUNCHEON.
They did attend the ball. Tom Cruise was there with the love of his life, Miss Katie Holmes. John Travolta and Miss Kelly (where's my check?) Preston, Arnold & Maria, Diane Sawyer & Mike Nichols.....the A-list.
But the LUNCHEON was the black ladies only...and Oprah said something about there bein' no hatin' just lovin' and praisin' goin' on in her backyard.....
BTW, the ladies invited to the luncheon did not know who else was gonna be there. They took their chances...in case a mortal enemy was seated next to them that O wasn't aware of....or else, copious research was done!!!!
Oooooh , maybe that's why no Aretha....cause of what Gladys wrote in her book... 'bout Aretha's preacher daddy rapin' his daughters!!!
"ALLEGEDLY"!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-?

So the other 42 folks mentioned as being at the luncheon were either "young uns" or "maybe next times"....
Phylicia Rashad, Debbie Allen, et.al.
Also among the guests at the ball: Barbra Streisand & Jimmy Brolin-Streisand, Usher, Sidney Poitier, Barbara Walters, Quincy Jones, assorted Wayans Brothers ( so many of em, they got their own table!!! at the end of the evening they asked Oprah for their new cars!!)
Entertainment:
John Legend (at the Luncheon)
Bebe Winans (at the ball)
Chris Botti (cute jazz trumpeter)
& Michael McDonald (who sang Motown hits off his 2 cover cds).
"With all those people in the room, when he sang their songs they would get up and sing!" says Winfrey.
"So you've got Smokey Robinson up onstage, and Ashford & Simpson and Patti Labelle. It was a jam fest!"
Deejay Frankie Knuckles kept guests on the dance floor till 3 a.m.
Dirt:
Oprah on the dangers of a potential Diva Convention:
"when people were canceling at the last hour and other people were demanding their seats at the the last half hour--I will mention no names!--Gayle was like, "I am beginning to take this personally because this is so rude!" I go, "Let it all go, because the intention is clear." [But] there was no diva behavior. Somebody told me Patti LaBelle said, "I don't call myself a diva anymore because I'm a legend." You had the greatest amount of starpower anybody has ever seen in one place and the greatest amount of humility and graciousness I have ever seen." :D
And Oprah paid for everything--plane fares, hotels, diamond earrings for the "Ladies" who lunched...everything but new cars, I guess.![]()
Miss Ross:
"I hadn't seen Diahann Carroll in a long time, and I got her number. I want to trade numbers tonight, that's what I want to do!."![]()
Awww, ain't that nice.
