Amoeba is the place I go in LA--however, after their opening several years ago...the supply of disco has really dwindled down to a few rows.
When they opened (November 2003)-- it was phenomenal!!! They musta had collections from hundreds of DJs....you couldn't carry home all that you could find and they were really cheap too!!!
Now they've upped the prices on the better stuff (formerly a 12" was $3 or $4 a pop...now they're more in the $7 & up range...but I got a lot of good stuff there and still see a few gems from time to time.
Plus the R&B LP section is always worth perusing every month or so....I've found good stuff there too.
So now that I've shot off my big mouth--I'll never find anything there again!!! My mastercard thanks you for buying it before I see it!!!
I hear you Marky,
I have the same problem with Amoeba in San Francisco. They used to carry lots of bargains and had a very decent disco section, honestly priced. But the prices of used vinyls have gone up quite a bit recently. Also, too many people looking for the same records lower the odds of you finding what you're looking for. The one in Berkeley is even worse, lousy selection of used 12". Still I would recommend Amoeba for CD buyers.
