I'm looking for the track that has been sampled by Michael Gray 'The Weekend'... It's a disco song, with italo sounds in it, I think beginning of the 80's...

The song I'm describing is very similar as Michael Gray's 'The Weekend'...

"The weekend" is inspired by Oliver Cheatham's "Get down Saturday night", as Phyllis Hyman said.

The chorus of "The weekend" is "I can't wait for the weekend to begin", and the music is the same as the part of GDSN where the lyrics are "I can't wait for Saturday to begin".

I found the video of "The weekend" on the web, which is somewhat pleasing to the eye! :P

But the two lines you refer to, are so not similar, there are sung totally different...

I wish I had some link to the song I was initially referring to... I'm sorry...

Because another vocalist is singing the lyrics. It is definitely taken from Oliver Cheatham...

Just to reaffirm what everyone else has said this is DEFINITELY inspired by Get Down Saturday Night. I know Mike Gray really well. I remember having a conversation about this with him not long ago. It's not a sample, as the others have said, which is why you might be getting confused. :-?

we were all right.

Clearly Sandy Kerr's "Back at ya" is sampled for the song (thanks to 54 addict for revealing that), but in addition Oliver Cheatham's record still provided the inspiration and tune (but not a sample) of the hook line of the song. A record can have more than one source!
