REMICKS this could be a zillion people :o is said act in the year end top 100?
*****
Ok ..... Let's try this .... still focusing in on 1975 .....
------A lot of old performers were seeing their old material being reworked into new disco versions. Some of them jumped on this bandwagon by re-recording "new" disco versions of their own old chestnuts .
One act who's old stuff was being reworked this way didn't seem too preoccupied by this trend ....and countered it by simply releasing brand new material that charted very well ......... ........
WHO ??? was still going strong in 1975 despite the fact that this act's older catalogue was also charting by getting this newer spin? .......................

Boy, Discodisk , I must be pretty bad at this.... first Marky & now you are having trouble with my clues :( !!
You can name solutions by the zillions , and when I review it again ... I can still find only ONE !!! :-?
Would you like to name just three of the zillions and we'll see how this set up of mine got so off track? ...... :D :-?
............This should help : the answer to your question is YES .... this act is listed amongst the top 100 of 1975 ..........
***** :D
Hmmmmm...off the top o' me head...
so someone who's making new music while someone else is remaking thier old hits?
The Supremes made new music...
The Jackson Five covered their "Forever Came Today" as a disco tune...
Is that the one?
:-?

Marky ...you are sooo close ...however I meant to specify that both made the Top 100 of 1975 .... The Supremes did not .
However ... your sooo close answer made me realize my intitial question could have been so much better .....
>>> instead of saying this :
"One act who's old stuff was being reworked this way didn't seem too preoccupied by this trend ....and countered it by simply releasing brand new material that charted very well." ......... ........
I should have said :
"One act who's older material was making the disco chart by being reworked by other artists in this way ... . didn't seem too disturbed by this trend .. they countered by successfully doing the same thing .....doing a discofied remake of a song of another old act as well "
much better .....
:D :D ??? :D :D

Well, I took that to mean that they were in the top 100 artists--which The Supremes are--but I guess you mean the top 100 records?Originally Written by remicks
:-?
Do you mean Frankie Valli or the Four Seasons?
Frankie did cover the old Ruby & the Romantics "Our Day Will Come"--didn't make the Top 100, though.
The Four Seasons had "Who Loves You"--but that didn't make the top 100 either.
Gerri Granger covered Frankie Valli's solo hit..."Can't Take my Eyes Off You"--but that didn't make the top 100....
It can't be the Isley Brothers.. But you said the Supremes were very close.....so it must be Motown...Temptations?...but I don't get what the cover song would be?
Just guessing, but was it The Tymes or The Trammps?
*****
Sorry dfc , not The Trammps nor The Thymes ....
Yep Marky.....mostly Motown .... :D .........
...............geeze ....... my clue giving sucks .......
.... The act in question : his/her/their old song, now remade by someone else ...did pretty good on the charts in its remade version .... & it is on the year end Top 100 songs of 1975 .
... And this same act's remake of someone else's old song also did fairly well as this remade version.... so it also made the Top 100 songs of 1975 ............................. :o :o :o
Both songs made the Top 100 songs of 1975 .
What are the two songs ???
Who are the two acts performing them?????
..... Does this make sense ?![]()
......pleeeease get it this round ..... you are soooo close !! :D :D

...........................final clue .........
Ok ............. so I sort of intentionally underplayed the successfullnes of these two songs ...... :) ....... hey, it is a quiz --- and quizes are supposed to be challenging ......
Actually both these songs did very well in the clubs ..........both the remake of one of this artists previous songs AND the disco remake this act did of somebody else's older song ....
They both did very well on the disco charts in 1975 ................
How well ? ........well check this out .... they both went to the top ..... both of these songs in question were NUMBER ONES !!!!!.............. :P :P 8) :o :) ..........................??????![]()

Well, I know Patti Labelle (w/Blueberries) originally did "Try To Remember" and that made it to the top 100 in 1975 as "The Way We Were/Try To Remember" by Gladys Knight and the Pips, and Patti's #1 song that year was "Lady Marmalade"...................am I getting warm???

That's a terrific well-thunked answer Swerzer ..... :D ....but ....you are digging too deep ....
Remember .... Not just one .... but BOTH these songs went #1 on Billboards Disco chart ..... and they both appear on Marky's year end 1975 Top 100 Songs.
There's a bit of a point being made here . One of the songs did not neccessarily PEAK at #1 in 1975 ......

.......where can I view Marky's year end 1975 top 100 songs?

That's the correct answer swerzer ! :D
Gloria Gaynor redid The Jackson Five 's "NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE" and The Jackson Five turned around and redid The Supreme's "FOREVER CAME TODAY" . :D
( 3/4 Motown , 1/4 MGM )
I probably overplayed the "OLD " act angle ... :P:P -- OK, I did so intentionally ... :P ... I was hoping thoughts of old schoolers like Frankie Valli might come to mind ....Quizes are supposed to be challenging !!
Truth is except for Ralph Carter, the J-Five had probably the youngest members within them of the Top 100 acts of 1975 . (??) and had only been charting since late 1969. As far as remaking an "oldie" .."NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE" had been a hit (#2) only three years earlier before Gloria Gaynor's version (#9).
"FOREVER CAME TODAY" by The Supremes peaked at #28 in 1968 .... It was their first record to not crack the TOP 20 since their debut song in 1963 ( 17 songs earlier !) . Still they did better with that song than the J-5 did in the HOT 100. How high did the Jackson Five get with it .... well .... whatever .... it went #1 DISCO !!! :D
