Hi there,
i have a book about the BLAXPLOITATION movie posters, and there is one poster in there of a movie called: DISCO GODFATHER!! starring Rudy Ray Moore and Carol Speed.
It's a movie about an retired cop that becomes a discjockey at a disco club. And all things go well untill theres a problem concerning his nephew and drugs in the disco. And so he has to settle the score and clean up the streets.
But thats all i know.
So,
Is the movie anygood?
Is it worth buying it on DVD?
And how is the disco-soundtrack???

is he that bad?![]()
Look on page three of this section: you'll see a discussion of Blaxploitation Films there. The comments by Hustlebaby, Paul and myself cannot begin to describe how awful Rudy Ray Moore is. However, if you see a super-cheap copy of one of his films, grab it, but prepare to watch it by drinking or drugging heavily. When you are close to an overdose, you might be able to stand the film.

I saw the movie. It's baaaaaaaaad. Have a drink and/or spark one up before you watchYou might make it through the whole thing. I'm afraid Boodi (as usual) is right on this one.

I remember reading an article on "Disco Godfather" in Movieline magazine, it was on their "Bad movies we love" section. So it's probably one for the (unintentional) laughs.
I know this is an old thread but I just stumbled across it by a google search. First, I dont know why all of you were giving Rudy Ray Moore a hard time. His humor isnt for the dull or close minded. His humor is very raunchy and sometimes dark..but im on that level of humor so I apreciate it and find him absolutly hillarious.
The film isnt worth paying full price for, but if you can find it for 10 bucks or less, it's def worth checking out and its funny as hell if you like this type of comedy. But even if you arnt on that level of humor, it's worth checking out just for the music alone!
Now, as for that music (which no one even bothered to mention!), it is SOLID STUFF! You have the main theme which is basicly hard disco, simmaler to something Patrick Adams woulda done with Musique. Then you have 2 disco/funk tunes, and 1 very nice morning/sleaze cut.
The soundtrack is very hard to find, and when you do find it, its usualy only on the internet on ebay, and it goes for no less than 150 bucks. Im still hunting for a copy for a half way reasonable price (id pay 50 bucks for it) and have been for quite some time...was lookin again today and thats how I got googled to this thread.

Yep, Jimmy, tell me about itLast week I was vinyl hunting and all the RR Moore stuff was there, except....yeah right! And it's indeed a good album! Very worth looking for and maybe pay da price!
BTW, I found a red vinyl (sealed) from the movie "Barbarella"! That was nice :icon_biggrin:
And Jimmy, taking the opportunity to say thx for all those great remixes you come up with, it seems you make one every day for breakfast LOL.
And say hello to Frank too!
Hey jimmy,
I wasn't giving RR a hard time, just the movie :icon_cool:
I liked his raunchy humor. I used to have his "party records" on cassette but I have no idea if I still have 'em
He frequently performed with Lawanda Page(sp), Sanford & Son's Aunt Esther. Talk about some funny raunchy stuff :icon_biggrin:

This soundtrack has GOTTA be sittin in some shop dirt cheap somewhere on this planet. I would never pay those ebay prices for anything..its ridiculous and im not rich or I may concider for this one lol. It's def on my top records to find list, ill say that!
And thanks for the compliment on my remixes :) Most of what your hearing on my youtube music page is stuff im diggin up from my archives. So its not all new stuff (to me anyway lol). I am currently working on something new right now with Frank, though:icon_razz:
I'll tell Frank you said hi!
And the "Barberella" red vinyl sealed is def a good find!

I finally found this film and just watched it tonight. This movie is DA ****!!! It's awesome!!! :icon_cool::icon_cool::icon_cool::icon_cool::icon_ cool:
If you felt nostalgic with those fake trailers in the GRINDHOUSE Rodriguez-Tarantino saga, don't miss this film. I hadn't laughed so much since SUPERBAD. Of course the guys who did the movie probably didn't pretend it to be funny. Looks like it was done by Ed Wood on crack. :icon_eek:
And the music is very good!!! Unknown musicians (at least for me) but it captures the moment, mixing disco with blaxplotation stuff. Ditto with the clothes and hairdos. Of course it's very badly written, acted and shot, and the karate fights are really awful. But then what can you expect from this kind of sleaze? And they supply so many action and laughs. There are several disco dance scenes, including some skaters; the star as a kinda James Brownish with a dumb face disco king; corny hallucinating scenes; gospel-chanting exorcism for victims of drug addiction; and typical cop-movie crappy scenes.
At one given moment, some drug buddies are seen getting ready for a cocaine-intaking with the white stuff on a pile over a SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER record cover. When the Disco Godfather (who happens to be an ex cop) comes in, they put a cowboy hat over the coke. After fighting some thugs and calling some lady a "shopliftah", the D.G. uncovers the drug and blows it off in an outbreath. Cut to the poor guys trying to snort it from the floor... And all the time there's a disco soundtrack! :icon_mrgreen:
"This is the Man of the Hour... On the Tower of Power... He's the Disco Godfather!"
Note: unlike other films, in this one people doesn't hesitate to say "****", "****", "motherfucka" and things like that. I guess you got away with it if your release was on Z-class theaters :icon_exclaim:
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
