A friend had given me several passes. I was only 17 and I was nervous because the minimum age was 23. I was nervous because of my silly friends who I thought would give us away. I was always sophisticated and older-acting so I wasn't worried about myself. Once inside I was a little disappointed because of all of the older men that I didn't want to dance with anyway. What I remember the most was dancing to Evelyn King's "I'm in Love". Still love that song.

What Was Your First Disco and Can You Remember the Song Playing When You Walked In?

This is going to be fun; firstly, let me say that when I first started liking disco, I was very liberal minded, and a friend, who I later found out was gay, but it didn't matter, took me to a Disco/Nightclub by the name of "The French Quarter." The dance floor was like what you saw John Travolta dancing on in Saturday Night Fever, the speakers were stacked on top of each other on each side of the dance floor, and there was a stage, in which they would have drag shows on certain nights (at first I had no idea what the stage was for). The DJ Booth was self constructed (all wood) and was on the far side of the dance floor.

If I remember correctly, Soul Makosa was playing, I was extremely nervous because of the type of crowd, but as I got drunk, I loosened up and had a great time! Later such hits as Casanova Brown, How High the Moon, etc. by Glorida Gaynor came on; this I remember.

This was in mid 1975 when disco was taking off. I enjoyed myself so much, I thought that there had to be straight or regular nightclubs doing the same thing, and I was right. I was hooked on Disco's and Disco after that, going to all kinds of Discos, straight, gay, whatever, just to see what the scene was doing, to meet interesting people, and to hang out.

Videoskooter Edit:Garry, there already was a similar thread opened by Pepper1dancer and since he revived it today, I thought it was better to merge the two threads since it would become confusing otherwise! It's a great thread, where people are talking about their earliest experiences with clubs and Discomusic so now we can read all the stories combined and adding your question about the very first song they heard there! Don't worry about the double feature, such things happen on a board that's been up since 1996!

Garry, there's a lot of old people here, like me, our memory starts to fade!!!! :icon_lol:

But it was "The Globe" in my birthtown. A pretty big bonafide Disco, where Donna Summer was performing her hit "The Hostage" and I truly remember the first Disco tune I ever heard in a real Disco and that was "TSOP" from an obscure band called MFSB

I am eagerly awaiting the Disco on the 45 minute drive there. Of course Disco is blaring from the FM radio. We get there, what sticks in my mind is walking through the place and I see 2 guys in the corner kissing, colored lights swirling everywhere and hearing the whistle from Donna Summers "Bad Girls" tune. The next song that came out was Foxy's "Hot Number". Everyone went crazy. Oh man, just wish i could just relive that 1 night over again. So young and so innocent....When the Music was just so right for me. Oh well, got my awesome memories though!!
There was an Old Plantation in Tampa too..It was pretty hot..The First time I was in a Disco was at a club called the Citadel in West Palm Beach..I was Barley 16..If you were cute they didnt care if you flashed a fake Id back then..or said O I left it at home.. I walked in and heard I Dont Wanna Lose Your Love by The Emotions.. and ran straight to the dance floor..of course I was the main course for the evening..( CHICKEN ) Cordon Bleu.:icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_lol:
But it was an evening I will never forget...

In 1978, at the Kebekelektrik disco in Laval, Québec
an alcohol-free disco club for 14-18, chicks were hot,
the disco track I recall best on that 1st night:
Edwin Starr - Contact (extended) was a blast

Was there a connection with the group Kebekelektrik???? Or did the group with Gino Soccio borrow that name?

Sorry I am unable to confirm the reason why the club was named Kebekelektrik. I know Gino Soccio is from Montreal and had strong influence on the disco scene in this city.
Gino Soccio's relative Louis is a real estate agent and is co-worker of my wife, maybe he knows better, I'll may ask next time I cross him. Small world. :icon_cool:
