    Chaka Khan - Destiny

I have recently bought the LP/Vinyl record "Destiny" by the great soul/dance diva, Chaka Khan... When I first listened to it I was rather dissapointed... It was not like the material we are used to from this lady... After a few listens it has grown on me... It has a heavy "rock" feel to it.. My favourite tracks are "Love of a Lifetime" & "Coltrane Dreams"Any one else like it/hate it ??

As much as I love Chaka, she has been guilty on occasions of turning out a naff LP or 2! But even the best artists don't always deliver the goods. Look at Stevie Wonder's output post-'82. :( I often used to say that the only act that has never made a bad record was the Pet shop Boys but I soon changed my mind when i heard their last LP 'Release'; genius can be so fragile! :-?

When she left RUFUS it seemed that she wanted to get as far away from what she did with that group. Unfortunately for her she had sporatic LP's which consisted of different types of songs that didn't necessarily appeal to the dance floor.

I love her to death... she is my favorite all time female lead. But I gotta tell ya... not a very good singer on her own as a solo artist. (with an exception of her highest charting LP in the USA).

I liked the song EARTH TO MICKEY from that LP

EARTH TO MICKEY is a great track. I also have the single LOVE OF A LIFETIME os 12".
One thing I have noticed with Chaka is that her voice is fabulous but sometimes you cannot understand what she is singing !

what I meant to say is that she wasn't a successful solo artist... because she failed to have multiple hits outside of I Feel For You.

Yup "destiny" was nothing but a mediocre pop album. The guys from Scritti Politti was behind it but actually did much better stuff than this on their own "Cupid & Psyche '85" LP.

However, destiny wasn't the worst of Chaka's albums. Anyone familiar with her 1992 set (forgot the name) will most likely agree with me on this one.

I think the 1992 album was just called CHAKA - I did have a single from it called LOVE YOU ALL MY LIFETIME but it was all rather disappointing...
She also released an album called WELCOME TO MY HOUSE but have never heard it...

The first 3 Chaka Khan LP's are quality.... I do wish they had more floor fillers tho.

I really liked the track I Want from the 1992 LP: The Woman I Am.

    This was danceable. :D

Love the little piano hook throughout the record. :D :D :D

That's the album name I couldn't remember Marky.
It was also the one having "love You All My Lifetime" on there I think.
For a very different chaka....check out the jazz album "Echoes Of An Era" where she fronts an all star jazz lineup feat Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Freddie Hubbard & Joe Henderson.
The small jazz snippets usually on chaks's other albums are being brought into full bloom here :D
