there's also a brief but great version

on Ashford and Simpson's wonderful concert recording "Performance" on which they performed several songs they wrote that were covered by others, including Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. The standout, though, is an extended, thrilling version of "The Boss" which was a big hit for Diana Ross. They challenged the audience to a sing a long to see who could sing the loudest; it just builds and builds. That is probably my favorite live recording of all time. Highly recommeded if you can find it...By the way, does anyone know WHY some record companies flat out refuse to release certain titles on CD?

    a) master is no longer in good order
    b) contractual problems
    c) refusal by artists or copyright owners to allow further exploitation (normally refused for money reasons)
    d) simply not enough money to be made / big enough market
    e) no obvious interest in material to be released. Re-releases don't really further the overall cause of music, when the original makers and consumers are still alive and (lets be honest here) most people view them as rip offs / cheapskate products, because all the hard work has been done and paid for at previous prices.

    Are they enough reasons?

Both Ashford & Simpsons & Gladys Knight versions are delicious. One of my favourite tracks of all time. GK just shades it for me though.

    DJ Boogie badness :D

I really like the Ashford & Simpson orchestration best, followed by Gladys' version. The vocals in the John Davis version are great, but the orchestration is a little weak compared to the other two.

    What a coïncidence.
Today, I read an article where they speak about that 12" and where they say that it is a very much wanted record that is selling for big money. So if anyone has the stuff in good condition, you can make money (IF you WANT to sell of course).

    This might count NickNack ...

I just added to my collection The Monster Orchestra's 1979 STRIKES AGAIN LP that includes BOURGIE BOURGIE

and looking over the jacket it reads :

    Vocals on Bourgie Bourgie:
Nick Ashford, Valerie Simpson and John Davis
