Speaking of Jabara, his best IMO has to be "Pleasure Island." What a song. http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/3360_0_2_0_C/

------- It's always seemed a bit peculiar that the two Pauls ..... Paul Jabara and Paul Shaffer from David Letterman cozied up in the early eighties to pen a song together about it raining .....men !
Tonight I'm enjoying a rare rainy night in May (but no, it's not raining men ) listening to Paul Jabara's elaborate "SHUT OUT " album (1977) and I'm reading the cover and noticing something interesting.....Paul Shaffer arranged half of the songs on this album , including the incredible "DANCE". ......Looks like the two Pauls were friends for many years .
Just interesting , that's all .......

I hope I come upon that album soon Bernie. I'm looking forward to it. Right now I'm just going through my records a handful at a time and they are not organized .
I believe Paul Jabara was one of those that truly understood the exciting "secret" elements of good disco music ..... where percussion was much more than just drums and much more than constant thumping ... , and also the role of the interplay of a variety of instruments that helped a song to build and move ..often to a huge crescendo . So I am looking forward to hearing "Pleasure Island" again , a song I admit to passing over years ago . Ahh .. those exciting years when there was too much music to keep up .... unlike Marky's 1975 chart days when DJ's hungrily sought out anything that might work .......
I like the way you describe "Pleasure Island" .. true Jabara form .... starting slow and building from there into almost a frenzy . Produced by Bob Esty too !!

Well ! :razz:Originally Written by remicks
It seems the two Pauls were good friends even longer than I thought ..... Paul Jabara's first intro into disco was in 1975 .....with a song called ONE MAN AIN'T ENOUGH ......and look who's involved with that one too....
Arranged by:
Paul Shaffer !! ........
who knew Paul Shaffer was such an early disco pioneer ... I can almost see his little energetic frame back then bopping about on a NYC dancefloor ....
....from ONE MAN AIN'T ENOUGH ... to IT'S RAINING MEN .... my, sorta stuck on a particular theme weren't they !
Too bad Paul Shaffer can't/won't come out with an interesting revealing interview about such things .....instead of just going thru life being a giggly ass-boy for David Letterman ...
